THE THOUGHT BEHIND THE PROCESS

Another week has snuck up on us all. Seeing as it is my turn to run the challenge for the Embellish it comp this week I thought I would pop up the main page of my challenge and chat about that.

For the challenge I decided that I wanted to go with a mixed media concept with a shabby chic kind of look. I love to combine all sorts of things on a page. The different textures come together to give us a fantastic look that frame and enhance our memories.

The front page of the album was created using canvas fabric. I found that using this was a little tricky as it had a slight waterproof element to it, so i found that wetting it down and scrunching it up was a great way to start. I then added my acrylic paint to the album and allowed that to dry. I then added some Tim Holtz inks as well as Versamark ink and watercolor pencils. When adding the paints and inks i splodged them all over and watered them down in sections to give them different depths of color.

The next step was to start layering all the other elements. I have no set rules when I create... it all just comes together as i move to the next level. The only thing that I did have planned with this page was the items i had chosen to use - canvas as my base, paint, ink, the photo, the transparency, the butterfly, lace and the rub on.

I found after i added some of those elements that the design needed some sewing to give a more grungy texture, and a few ribbons and some buttons helped out too. All the elements on the page were sewn on except for the diamonte brads. The buttons were also adhered with dimensional magic.

After adhering all elements and creating the page on the other side, I used a small amount of glue to adhere them in the middle and then sewed the two pages together. I found using one canvas page and one cardstock page gave the album a fantastic sturdiness without taking away the appeal of creating a Mixed media album that was a little shabby grunge.

have a great week creating and don't forget to check out the gallery with all the entries from this weeks challenge.
