Quick card using Ruby Rockit papers

After seeing Sue's wonderful layout yesterday I was inspired to use up some of my Ruby Rockit papers to make a quick card.

I have used the following materials:

•  Ruby Rockit papers  summerhouse collection 
• Sticky back canvas
• Card blank
• Cardstock
• Script stamp
• Adirondack Tim Holtz Color Wash
• Embossing powder
• Distress Stickles
• Punch

I had made the butterfly earlier in the week by playing around with some sticky back canvas.

I diecut a butterfly shape, then stamped the canvas using a script stamp inked with versamark then embossed.  Using a mini-mister, I wet the canvas then sprayed on some Color Wash.  I wet it first so the two colours would bleed into each other a bit.
When dry, I added some Distress Stickles.

 I have used a border punch to give the edge some definition, fussy cut a flourish from the Ruby Rockit paper and added one of my favourite verses.

All done...very simple...xxxooo

Simple card using Ranger 'Distress' products - Nicky Amber

Well this week I thought I'd make a simple card using some of the new (and old)  Ranger 'Distress' products.

To start, I punched out a butterfly shape and then spread a thin layer of Ranger Distress Stickles.  On this butterfly I used Broken China, Shabby Shutters and Faded Jeans

 

I then used the Ranger Distress Crackle paint over the top of the image.

Once the shape is covered with the crackle paint, leave to dry.  When it dries it should form cracks in the surface to produce....

The size and amount of cracks will be determined by the thickness you apply the paint, thinner application leaves finer cracks while thicker application will leave larger cracks.

For the background of the card I used the Distress Ink watercolour technique I used a couple of weeks ago, for instructions click HERE.  Then I stamped my trusty script stamp using Distress Ink over the top.

I wanted to define the border so I used the Distress stickles around the edge of the page.

and also added a clear butterfly trail using the clear rock candy Stickles.

 So there you have it!  All you need to do is add a sentiment to suit your occasion.

Stickles can be used on your pages, cards and on other embellishments to add that something extra...

Here I've added it to the edges of this flower.

Step-by-step card sketch by Nicky Amber

Today I'll be going through a card sketch step-by-step.

Step 1.  Take a card base (pre-made or made yourself) and add a piece of patterned paper slightly smaller than your card.

Step 2. I have stitched around the border but that is totally optional
Note:  If you don't want the stitching to show to other side of the card, stitch the patterned paper before you attach it to the card.

Step 3.  Add a circle to the patterned paper.

Step 4.  Add embellishments around the circle.
             (I have added stamped butterflies, flowers and punched leaves)

Step 5.  Add your sentiment to the card.
            (I have used a quote as the sentiment for the sample card)

Sample card...

In this sample I have used:

• pre-made card - ready made to take the hard work out of making your cards
• cardstock - I matted the patterned paper with co-ordinating cardstock
• patterned paper - choose your patterned paper to suit your card theme...eg.christmas, masculine, birthday, baby etc...
• stamps - I stamped the butterflies then cut them out.  I also stamped a flourish stamp to cardstock and punched out the leaves.
• kindyglitz - added to highlight areas
• punches - punched out the leaf shapes
• flowers - I added small rosebuds to the circle shape (Note: I only had white rosebuds so I coloured them with ink to match the card).

'Scrapping on a budget' layout by Ingeborg Dijkstra

We all love to buy new scrapbooking products, don't we? But ... sometimes we cannot afford to spend much or we cannot spend anything at all. I wanted to create a layout using only one sheet of patterned paper and nothing else. I was quite surprised to see how easy it was and how it still turned out to be a colourful and fun layout.

Materials used for this layout:

• one sheet of patterned paper 'Bliss' (Kindred Spirit, the paper costs only $ 0.90)
• red pen
• brown pen
• Butterfly Punch (I used a punch from Martha Stewart, click HERE to see more butterfly punches)
• Glossy Accents (it isn't cheap, but a bottle can last for years and the product can be used in so many ways, so I think it is surely worth to purchase)

I started with this sheet of patterned paper:

I added my journaling (some lyrics from Miley Cyrus) at the bottom. The words are about butterflies and therefore I put the words in swirly lines to create a 'butterfly' feel. Our daughter loves Miley Cyrus at the moment, so it seemed to fit well ...

I added my title at the top. I used a bigger marker for this, but kept the same 'swirls' going ...

Using a brown pen, I 'sort of' traced around the red title, to keep the writing in the same style as the paper.

Using a craft knife I cut the bottom of the butterfly out of the patterned paper. I want to put my picture just under it. I carefully 'popped' the butterfly out of the paper:

I used the Glossy Accents on the butterflies on the paper and in the centres of the circles and flowers. As you apply the Glossy Accents it looks 'whitish' (see picture below), but it will dry clear and a bit shiny!

Looking at the picture above you can see how the red butterfly has a fresh layer of Glossy Accents on it (you can see the whitish 'stuff') and below you can see what it looks like all dried up!

I punched three butterflies out of a scrap piece of orange paper and added them for a final touch:

Done ... and remember this layout only costs me about $ 1.00 ! ! !

'You're the coolest' - Quick and easy layout by Ingeborg Dijkstra

Materials:

• White Cardstock
• Element Stickers 'Lime Rickey' (Basic Grey)
• Patterned Paper 'Lime Rickey' Liquid Candy (Basic Grey)
• Patterned Paper 'Lime Rickey' Tutti Frutti (Basic Grey)
• Patterned Paper 'Lime Rickey' Sarsaparilla (Basic Grey)
• Patterned Papaer 'Lime Rickey' Tart and Tiny (Basic Grey)
• Flowers (Prima Marketing)
• Silver Rhinestones/ Bling (KaiserCraft)
• 2" Square Punch
• Flower punch

Instructions:

Sometimes I really like making quick and easy, no fuss layouts. If you use paper and stickers from one collection, this is easily done, because you know it always matches! I used a plain sheet of cardstock as a base and punched 10 squares (2" each) out of the patterned paper.

The 'Element Stickers sheet' already had the title 'You're the coolest', so to keep this layout quick and easy, I used those for the title of my layout. I also added my photo.

The sticker sheet also has a few circles and flowers on it. I placed a few at the top left corner and some at the bottom. I used the arrow sticker to point to our daughter, since this layout is all about her. The stickers are so easy to work with and are strong, so they don't tear easily !

I used some Prima flowers and some punched flowers to have a nice 'flow' of flowers at the top and bottom. I added some bling in the centres of the flowers. Done!

“Thanks” Card



Materials used:

• Chelly Bean Designs Romantic Rose
• cardstock
• My Minds Eye Abbey Road Whirlybird “Best Friends”
• thread, ribbon, ric rac or yarn
• Bella foam mount
• buttons

Using cardstock (I’ve used white) cut 28cm x 14cm and score (fold) at 14cm to fold it in half.

Cut a (large) square piece of pattern paper – My Minds Eye Abbey Road Whirlybird “Best Friends” scattered flowers to 13cm x 13cm.

Using a 35mm square punch (or cut them by hand) punch out 9 (small) squares of coordinating pattern paper – Whirlybird “Shine” .

Rather than ink the edges of the large and small squares I’m going to distress the edges. I use a Making Memories “distresser” and Tanyah has the great Tim Holtz one in the shop. If you don’t have one – you can use your scissors
– but please do so very carefully!!! So distress the edges of your large square and the 9 small squares
.

Adhere the 9 small squares in an even grid on your large square
. If you feel the need you can use a ruler to make sure they are all ‘even’ but I tend to go more ‘freestyle’ and place them by eye!

With a pin pad (old mouse pad) under your large square, pierce the paper through all layers between a number of the small squares .
Using some matching coloured embroidery thread; stitch between the pierced holes .

Put your sentiment on a small rectangle of coordinating cardstock using a stamp, mini alphas or in my case, I’ve used a Kaisercraft rubon. Ink the edges of this small rectangle .
We will be adhering this to the bottom right hand corner of the smaller squares later.

Using some thread, ribbon, ric rac or yarn, cut a piece approximately 12 cm long to curve into the shape of the stem of our flower .
I’ve used twine – I really like the rustic look of this twine amongst the ‘pretty’ colours of these papers. Attach the twine in place using glue or Xyron sticker maker.

I’ve snipped out a small piece of the green pattern paper to make a very small leaf which I’ve outlined in a fine pen. Adhere the sentiment and small leaf using double sided foam mount (Tanyah has some Bella foam mount). This gives a 3D effect and lifts the sentiment up over the twine
.


Using a flower (Chelly Bean Designs Romantic Rose); glue on top of your twine ‘stem’. As you can see, I’ve inked the pink romantic rose slightly .
Add a few buttons as finishing touches to final pretty card
