Does Tracey know how to set a challenge or does Tracey know how to set a challenge LOL?!?!!! Congratulations to all of you for creating such wonderful mini albums with her ‘Mixed Media It’ challenge criteria, and congratulations to those of you who have made it through to the final week.
Recycle It. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? By now I’m guessing we have all incorporated recycled items into our various projects in some form or another. Yes? I hope so because this challenge is about taking recycling to another level. This challenge is not about recycling the silver lining in Milo containers, or using scrapbooking or other craft packaging materials which, so conveniently these days, are produced for re-use. Buttons too, although may be recycled, are not going to cut it in this challenge. This challenge is about looking at the things we throw out or are lying around and rather than binning them, or walking past them, finding a way to use them. Recycling for the environment. LOL not a bad thing to do considering, for the most part, we are paper crafters!!
The criteria I have set for this challenge were inspired by a project my DH and I have been working on for the past couple of years. Building a house. No it hasn’t taken two years to build the actual house LOL but from the time we bought the block until this week when we received the keys, it has been a little over two years. Buying a block, preparing a house for sale, selling a house, moving, unpacking, overseeing the building of the house, packing again, shopping, organising tradesmen … I cannot believe how much paper has been involved in this process. I cannot believe the number of things that simply got ‘turfed’ along the way. But I still smile like a Cheshire cat when I see how much my ‘recycled products’ stash has grown. A building site is a veritable treasure trove of delights waiting to be found. A few of the recycled products I have used were literally scrounged from the building site, not knowing what I would do with them, but knowing that I had to have them. So scrounged and stored away they were!
Digressing for a moment … now that our house is complete (well except for the flooring, the landscaping, the window dressings, a mattress, water tanks, a driveway, blah, blah, blah LOL) it is time for me to farewell the ScrapNCraftWithT design team. In fact, I haven’t been fully active on the design team for some weeks now. I simply haven’t had the time. I actually can’t remember the last time I scrapped and scrapping is my lifeblood!! I’ve made a few cards here and there but otherwise I’ve been having disputes with our builders, packing, packing, having more disputes with our builders, packing some more, and oh did I mention packing or having disputes with our builders?! Right now 80% of my stash is packed and by Saturday night that number will be 100%. Once we’ve moved I have no idea when I’ll be able to start scrapping again although (LOL) I’ll have plenty of cardboard to work with! In the new house I have a large studio so when I do start creating again I have plans to explore paper crafts further in areas like block printing, and graphic design for starters. So whilst it’s been a tremendous honour and pleasure to work with Tanyah and the DT girls, and I’m sad to be leaving, I am excited about the new horizons ahead of me.. Thank you Tan, not just for this last hurrah, but for your inspiration and encouragement, for asking me to join your design team and by far not least, your friendship.
‘Enough of the waffling’ I hear you say!! ‘Let’s get on with the challenge’ someone called. Well you’ve asked for it, and here it is …
Create a single or double page shaped layout. Circles, scallop circles/squares, 6x12s and other sized layouts (such as 8x8s), and any other variations thereof are not allowed (you get the idea). Further, the shape must support the theme/focus of your layout. My layout is in the shape of the façade of our new house.
As you’ll be working with plenty of photos (yes LOL … multiple photos are a requirement) please use them in a unique way and as your focal point. On my layout I have used photos to construct the roof of my house and then have used varying photos in varying ways to tell a story.
Bring your layout to life with interesting forms of texture, bold colours and three-dimensional elements. In terms of interesting texture I draw your attention to the grass at the bottom of my layout … it was made from thin sheets of packing foam which I roughly cut into the shape of grass, applied Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to, and then, after applying PVA glue, I liberally sprinkled with Flower Soft.
Create your layout in a collage format. My layout comprises a lot of layering, and there is barely a spot of white space to be seen.
Finally, recycle at least ten different things you find lying around ... whether in your home, backyard, the local park (okay so not even I would pick up rubbish … well maybe … LOL), wherever. Be creative and think outside the square.
My recycled items include:
* A “SOLD” sign from a property magazine.
* Plasterer’s mesh … thanks to the obliging plasterers!!
* 3D foam packing … I used this for 3D mounting.
* Packing cardboard … again, I used this for 3D mounting (thinking outside the square).
* Green packing strap … found on our building site.
* Black packing strap … found on our building site.
* Thin packing foam sheets.
* A bamboo skewer.
* A Rivers Store clothing tag.
* Monopoly money (vintage).
* A wooden disk (number 22) from a vintage lotto game.
What more can I say? Have fun and get recycling!!!

This is our final week and challenge. The person who wins this week will win $150 worth of goodies along with a second and third place. Welcome to the Week 8 Challenge. This week’s theme is “Mixed Media It”.
The beauty of creating a Mixed Media piece of art is that there are no solid rules. Anything you choose can be added to your work. So the guidelines for this week’s challenge will be:
Create a mini album – you must create a mini album with at least 3 different materials as the base pages. Two of your pages will need to be created out of fabric. (I have used canvas/ heavy weight calico, cardstock, corrugated card) - your acetate embellishment page (described below) is not counted as one of these pages.
All pages need to combine paint, ink and collage. The collage style can include anything you want – ribbon, photos, journaling, other embellishments, but every page must include at least one button and stitching (either hand or machine).
Your embellishment for this artwork is to create at least one acetate page to go into your album – this page is to be a different shape to your album shape. This page will need to have patterned paper, stitching and a word or journaling.

This page was created with canvas fabric. I have also used watercolor paints, tim holtz inks, buttons, ribbons, random stitching, rub ons, lace & ribbons and a transparency over the photograph.
The page on the right has been created using acetate.
I have created this next page using cardstock and texture paste, this was to give the page dimension.
The page on the left is cardstock and the page on the right was created with canvas.
The page on the left was created out of corrugated card. the page on the right is another acetate page.

My final page was created out of cardstock with a stamped transparency and fabric added.

This week's challenge is set by Nicky Amber.
Your challenge this week is to create a project (any project - layout, card, OTP, canvas whatever!) that helps you use up your scraps and whatever you might have lying around in your stash.
Most of us usually have some plain cardstock lying around in our stash so to start with we would like you to use cardstock to create your own patterned background. You can use paint, ink, stamps, masks, etc... to do this.
We all like to get the most out of our materials so we'd like you to use your scraps and off cuts to make some inchies (at least 3) and incorporate them into your project.
NOTE: inchies are little pieces of art that measure 1 inch x 1 inch.
We would also like you to incorporate a favourite quote into your title... and to challenge you further no alpha stickers eg. thickers are to be used in your title.
To 'embellish' your project we'd like you to make a handmade embellishment from fabric. You can use other scraps or items on your embellishment too - as long as the basis is made from fabric.
So to recap, you must:
create your own patterned background
make and use at least 3 inchies on your project
use a quote as part of your title
not use alpha stickers on your project
create a handmade embellishment from fabric

Create a card compendium to give as a gift.
It must be made from at least 2 PP's from the same paper range.
They must include a couple of cards to show how it is used.
I would like the card compendium to look nothing like mine. (since someone has already made one in last weeks challenge)
We require you to create an embellishment by taking a store bought embellish such as the flower shown and altering it in some way.
I have used paper flowers on the outside and made a polymer clay rose for the centre and then used kindy glitz to make it all glittery.
Must make something and not just alter it by inking or using kindy glitz.

Alter an embellishment
Make a card compendium that is different from mine.
Make at least 3 cards

Congratulations again to those of you who are still with us in the competition. The gallery looks amazing and we are thrilled with the effort everyone has been putting into their entries, keep up the awesome work!
This week's challenge is set by Melinda Spinks (winner of the 'Embellish It' competition in 2009)
Melinda's challenge is to create a layout using the following criteria:
Layout to be any shape but square!
Monochromatic Colour Scheme (With a hint of one other colour only!)
Paper Rolling or Quilling must be used on your layout!
Stamping to be used on your layout and be a prominant feature (not just a little stamp in the corner).
An embellishment to be made using acetate/transparency (you can also include any of the above criteria on your embellishment).
This week is about thinking 'outside the box' and creating a layout that does not use the standard 12 x 12 square cardstock for your background. Melinda has created her layout based on a circular background which she has also used a paper rolling technique to enhance the edges giving it a stand-out feature! Paper rolling and quilling aren't the easiest of techniques, however this is round 5 so we are trying to add another level of difficulty to your project, and possibly something that you haven't done before, or haven't done in quite some time!
Melinda has used the colour pink in varying shades for her monochromatic theme with just a touch of brown. You can incorporate small amounts of one other colour, but remember... white and black are classed as colours so you cannot use them unless they are your nominated colour.
Your embellishment this week is to incorporate clear acetate or a transparency, if you don't have either of these at home then you might be able to use clear packaging of some kind. Melinda has used the clear cover of a shirt box to make the angel wings and used a white paint pen to draw the definining lines. She has also used another form of paper rolling for the large heart on her embellishment.
So... time to get creative and get rolling!

HERE IS THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE, which is done by Ingeborg .... She lives in the Netherlands, where Summer has started earlier this week. This picture was taken on their family holiday in Thailand exactly one year ago today. Ingeborg created some beaded thongs out of felt as her embellishment.
She also created some more flowers out of felt and she used beads in the centre of the flowers. She doodled a frame and a palm tree (which was painted with water colour pencils). The bling can be found on the journaling block and the handstitching is done on the right side (the dark brown swirl border).
This week's challenge is for you to also create something ( a layout or an OTP) using the following five points:
Let me clarify the criteria; those five 'things' mentioned above (hand stitching, felt, beads, bling / rhinestones and doodling) have to appear on the layout/ project somewhere, BUT you have to create a handmade embellishment too (using one or more of those five points as mentioned above).
For example: the handmade thongs have felt and beads and a bit of handstitching. The handmade flowers have beads and felt too. You can also choose to create an embellishment using bling and beads and doodling for example. Does this make sense?

This week's challenge is set by Kylie Abel.
The challenge is to create something using:
cool colours
paint
some kind of title/lettering (handwritten/printed/alphas)
at least one flower and
an inventive hybrid embellishment.
We're guessing right now there are a lot of you sitting staring at your screen scared to death! But a "hybrid" embellishment isn't as scary as it sounds. Hybrid is basically just something that starts off on your computer, which you print out and put on your traditional project in some way. It can be a digital paper that you may have downloaded, a frame printed on transparancy, or even using your computer's fonts to create your journaling on a page.
We want you to be inventive with your hybrid element though... Come up with something as original as you can, something that is yours, something you can't buy in your local scrapbooking shop! In Kylie's example, the butterflies she has used originally started out as a colouring-in page she found on Google Images. She made them smaller and printed them multiple times on a printable transparancy. Then she cut them out and adhered them to the frame with Glossy Accents.

After a very scary week and news of the tonnato at Lennex Head and the rain just wouldn't stop we were extreamly blessed to have perfect weather for our opening day!
Thankyou to so so many people that made our opening day so successful! Quite a few Brissy and Gold Coast girls made a special trip to see my shop. Also So so many locals that were able to join in the fun and pick up lots of bargains that were only available on the day. We were unable to do any make and takes until later in the afternoon for we had all hands on deck serving and helping so many of you! These were the only pictures i took of the day for after this it got so crazy their was not time for anything but serving. I hope your all able to pop in again and have a chat and answer any questions i didn't get to do on the day.
We would like to thank Manda for donating a ‘Made X Manda’ bag and camera strap for the lucky door prize. This was extremely generous of you. And I am very sure the winner will love it too! Anyone that would like a strap are welcome to send me an email and I can help them get the desired strap/bag they would love to have.
