A Layout to share for Mothers day!

Today is the day we celebrate and remember someone very special in our lives. For those of us that are fortunate to have children to treat us something special to say thankyou for what we do. Its the small things nothing big that makes me put a smile on my face and feel loved...

Another Single layout creation playing with gel mediums, paint & Templates

How are we all going with our kiddies back at school now and life starting to get back to normal for most of us. Life can bring so many up's and downs  for us. This is why I  love creating.... creating for yourself  is a fantastic way to explore lots about you and what you like.

I have found the Bright and Beautiful  RAK pack from Nic creates has inspired me to do just this lately. I love these bright colours so so much but really hadn't explored this combination before and had so much fun doing so.

Lately I am in LOVE with bright summer like colours! they are happy and has given me the  inspiration I needed right now.

This layout I created late last night and was surprised how quick it came together!..

Playing around with mixed media..

Hope today finds you well.
Here is another page I did while I was away.... exploring and finding out what works and doesn't with mixed media.

I really recommend just doing this cause you learn so so much. Don't be scared for if it didn't work the way you wanted then you will know next time what you liked or what you would change.

I have used a napkin, daubers, spritz spray (clear snaps), aqua water crayons, modge podge, 2 crafty, a2z and tiddlebitz chipboard.

How did i do it?....

• I rubbed different colour crayons onto my stamp, spritzed with water and stamped half off the page in a few sections.
• On the sideof my page .....  i inked my chipboard shapes using the sprays, daubers and inks.
• The raw chipboard i adhered onto my page first
• Then placed all over my page some modge podge
• Finding my serviette i separated the 3 ply into a 2 ply. 
• I then adhered over the raw chipboard and page and made as many wrinkles out of the serviette that i could by drawing the paper in to make the wrinkles.
• I then found my second layer which was the coloured part wasn't sicking so i took it off to find that the centre part had stuck down where i had more modge podge than anywhere else and thought why not add this into the feature leaving the background white.
• When dry I used my daubers and inked in the centre
• Then adhered the chipboard shapes wherever I desired. 

 There really isn't a wrong or right just have fun and PLAY!

Ruby Rock-It Summerhouse Range - A Layout by Sue Smith

Today's layout uses the bright modern Ruby Rock-It Summerhouse range and really is perfect for those summertime layouts. These patterned papers are 200gsm cardstock and are double-sided.....



Here is a list of the goodies I used to make this....

To make the layout, I took the RR Hot Hot Hot paper

and cut a large square, and then made some random triangular cuts and stuck it to the cardstock moving every second strip out a couple of cms to give that 'ray' effect.

I cut the blue portion from the RR Streak paper

and then cut a large scallop along one edge, then inked the edges and outlined with black gel pen, sticking it down so that it sat half below where the photo was going.

I stuck the white scallopy ribbon along the left hand side and added some slightly crumpled mesh over that before securing the photo in place.

I added a title using the 3 different alphas and outlined them with black gel pen, and then attached the cute little calendar tab after colouring the edges slightly.

To finish off I found this chippy diecut from WOW that kind of looks like bubbles, and thought it would go well to embellish the layout. Here it is in it's raw state...




If I have plenty of time, I love playing around with raw chippy...it's so much fun.
With this one I covered the shape with lots of Versamark...you really do need to dab all over it numerous times to get it sticky enough as the chippy is so porous in it's raw state (alternatively you could cover it first with a paint like Gesso and you wouldn't need so much ink then). I then sprinkled it with the sparkly Judkins embossing powder, and applied heat. Then I applied more Versamark to the 'bubbles' on the shape, and sprinkled with the zinnia (green) UTEE and applied heat. I then decided I didn't like the sparkly bits, so I Versamarked over them and sprinkled with the blue iris UTEE and applied heat. Then while the UTEE was still melted I sprinkled a little bit of green over the blue in places and applied heat once again.

It's a pity I didn't think to take progress photos of all the stages because all of that probably doesn't make much sense. But here are some close-ups of the finished embellishment...

Step by step layout by Tanyah Payne

Hi Everyone...



How are we all going with only 9 days to Christmas... how are we all going with organisation? For me....its not happening very fast....lol!

In my time out lately I have created a layout that was a challenge on the Scraplounge a couple of weeks ago. We were to base our layout on a music lyric and
only allowed to use 3 embellishments...yep for those who know me that is imposible!.... well accually i did it and surprised myself what you can do with very little supplies.






















Products Used:

• Bo Bunny Gypsy Range of pattern papers
• Making Memories Paint
• Carolee Creations Sleek Alphas
• paper string - for the sewing
• very small amount of red cardstock
• Gelly
• journal pen
• crafters workshop template

 My 3 embellishments were...

• Chipboard
• Rubons
• Sizzix ladybug die cut.

Instructions

1. Place your template over the top of your paper
2. Using a brush, cover the paint over the top of your template
3. Lift template off and wash the paint off
4. Wait to dry
5. Cut a co ordinating patten paper and distress around the edges. Place at the left hand side of the photo. 
6. Cut a shape from the gypsy range of papers and placed on the right hand side of the photo
7. Tear a small part of the base paper approx 1.5".
8. Find a co ordinated paper and place under the teared edges, this will give a different dimention and colour to your page.
9. Roll the edges and place cardstock underneath
10. Punch holes using a hole reamer or thick needle where you want to sew
11. than using your paper string sew in and out to where you want to go.
12. I placed the ladybug  at the top left of the pealed back edges.
13. Typed my lyrics on the computer and matted with red cardstock and placed on the left side of my photo.
14. title your layout
15. sewing my corner on the right hand side.
16. Using a journal pen i doodled a frame around the bottom of my photo.

EMBELLISHED CHIPBOARD SHAPE...

1. I am sure i have put this on here before but here it is again....
2. paint your surface
3. place gelly over parts of your chip shape
4. Carefully paint over the top of the gelly and entire chip shape
5. Wait to dry
6. Using a paper towel, wipe off the gelly to get this amazing effect!... cool hey!
7. Embellish with rubons!...and all is done!

Hope my layout enspires you to create and have some time out at this crazy time of year....

Guest book - Nic Amber

This week I thought I'd share a guest book I've made for my nan's 70th birthday party this weekend.  These are a great gift idea for those special occasions where a lot of friends and family are getting together...people can simply sign their name or leave a special message.

Along with messages and well wishes, I've also featured photos throughout to showcase Nan's life.


To make the album:

I've used a Kaisercraft chipboard album as the base for the guest book.

I have used the Jazmyne range of papers from Bo Bunny but you can pick any papers that will suit the occasion - choosing papers from the same range will help you co-ordinate much easier.  I have used patterned paper for the front cover and then cardstock for the other covers.

To get the right shape, I just laid the chipboard shape over the paper, traced around the shape and cut it out with scissors.

I have embellished the front cover using:

• machine stitching
• pearl bling
• flowers
• rhinestones
• punched shapes
• alpha stickers

 I chose a quote to be the focus on the front cover, but you could put a photo, name or the occasion instead.

 I cut out flower and leaf shapes from the patterned paper and incorporated them into the embellishment cluster.

I added '70' with alpha stickers and blinged it up a bit using some rhinestones.

For the inside pages, I inked around the edges with some Distress ink to help it all blend in.

To attach it all together, I've used some album rings and then added some ricrac, ribbon and lace.

Little Yellow Bicycle Snugglebug Range - a double layout by Sue Smith

Last week I did a layout with this range in the blue-tone 'boy' colours (which if you missed it can be seen here). This week I have done a double layout using the pink 'girl' papers in this range....



Here is a list of the products I used for this...

* Cardstock in white and a pale pinky-brown

* Little Yellow Bicycle 'Girl Playtime'

* Little Yellow Bicycle 'All Over Snugglebugs'

* Mesh Ribbon in Pink/Gold

* Heidi Grace Pocket Frames

* White flower-shaped brads

* Black Sharpie Pen

* Dusty Attic Chipboard Doily

* Clear embossing powder

* Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Victorian Velvet

* Basic Grey Rub-ons

I started with 2 sheets of the pale pinky-brown cardstock, and over the top I placed 2 sheets of white cardstock, hand-scalloped and cut around the edge and then doodles the outline of the scallops with the black Sharpie pen.

I then cut the LYB 'Girl Playtime' paper into strips and spread them out over the double pages.

With a sharp scalpel I cut out some of the 'bug' detail on the left-hand strip to overlap the main photo....



I wanted to outline each photo, but none of my white pens would write successfully on the shiny photo paper, so instead, I scratched an outline with a kitchen skewer and then arranged the photos across the 2 pages over a strip of mesh ribbon. I also highlighted the main photo with a plastic frame cut in half and arranged at an angle.

I cut the title from LYB 'All Over Snugglebugs' paper using my Pazzles Inspiration Diecutter and outlined each letter with the black Sharpie pen....



For my journalling I used a chipboard circle which I inked and embossed and then topped with the Basic Grey rub-on heart....



I then cut out individual 'bugs' from the LYB 'All Over Snugglebugs' paper and attached them with foam DST to give them some dimension.

I hope you like my 'girl' version using this wonderful range from Little Yellow Bicycle...I am TOTALLY in love with it.

School days - Cosmo Cricket layout

2010 has  beena  special  school year for our family.  Teleah  started  Pep and   2010  will be the only year  that all of my children are at school at the same time.  Joshua  starts High school next year.  With that in mind, I wanted  to document that event  - staring with a photo of the  2 of them together.  The Cosmo Cricket  papers  are pefect  for these school layouts~

2010 – A school layout

Products Used:

• Cardstock
• Cosmo Cricket paper
• Maya Road envelopes which are on sale! 40% off RRP
• Tim HOLTZ crackle paint which are on sale! 40% off RRP
• A2Z chipboard shape which are on sale! 40% off RRP
• chipboard buttons which are on sale! 40% off RRP
• Foam Alphas which are on sale! all alpha stickers 40% off RRP

1. Use the teal cardstock as your base

2. Take”Now thats a good thing” from Cosmo Cricket and cut to 7 inches across and 8 inches down. Ink edges

3. From the scrap that remains cut to 5 inches x 9 i/2 inches. We will use the coloured striped side. Ink edges

4. Take “ Homework” by Cosmo Cricket and cut to 3 ½ inches by 11 inches . Ink edges.

Adhere with pencil side up.

5. Adhere photo. I have used a 6 x 4 portrait. Leave a gap at the top to slide in the Maya road pocket for any journaling or samples of writing etc.

6. From Cosmo Cricket “Now thats a good thing - select desired cutouts , phrases or journal blocks. I have cut SMILE and a journal block. Adhere

7. Paint chipboard bird - I have used Tim Holtz distress paint.

8. Attach journal block and any words – I have raised SMILE up on pop dots.

9. I have then cut out two pencils from th scrap paper and have these coming out from the diecut

10. Slip Maya road tag in behind the photo

11. Add inked chipboard buttons

12. Add title and journaling

So get into Tanyas  store and check out these  seriously  SCHOOL papers!!!!

My Special Two - a 'vintage' style layout by Sue Smith

This week my layout has a vintage feel with a very special subject matter...my mum and dad who are no longer with me. I struggled quite a bit with this as I wanted to get it 'just right' to pay homage to the memory of my amazing parents. In the end, I altered the papers and embellishments in subtle ways that made it all come together. I am happy with the final outcome...what do you think?.....



Here is the photo that I started off with....



I then attacked it with a fine-grade sandpaper....more than I usually would with a photo....and kept working it until I was happy with the distressed effect...



Next I made a backing mat with Basic Grey Mellow - Sapid paper and decorated with Kaisercraft Rub-ons. The ones I have used are the Gypsy Sisters Collection, which Tanyah doesn't currently have in stock, but I know she would be more than happy to order them for you if wanted these same ones.



To blend with the other elements I had chosen for this layout, and to give an older, more vintage feel to the photo, I decided to ink the background mat and some of the photo with Tim Holtz Distress Inks. Using a sponge as an applicator, I coloured the background mat and the edges of the photo using layers of Crushed Olive, Victorian Velvet, and Pumice Stone. And here is how it turned out.....




For the rest of the layout, I used the following products....

* Chromatics Black Cardstock

* Basic Grey Aged & Confused - Phresh & Funky patterned paper (pink background square)

* Crate Paper - Restoration Collection 'Doilies' (I inked this with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Victorian Velvet)

* Jenni Bowlin Studios - Bingo Cards - Valentine Bliss (red)

* Crate Paper - Restoration Collection Adhesive Backed Chipboard Stickers

* Pink Paislee Expressions - Whimsies Cardstock Alpha Stickers - Chocolate - these are the large and small alphas on the layout.

Hope you like what I've created...I'm happy with it, and I guess that's all that really matters with scrapbooking.

So on that note I leave you with the words...scrap for yourself and no-one else because that's all that really matters...to tell YOUR story YOUR way...your family down the line for generations to come will love what you have created simply because it is their legacy, not because it was artistically 'perfect' at the time you created it.

Fancy Pants "About a Girl" papers - A layout by Annie Zorzo

Do you have beautiful girls in your family....but don't like PINK?  If you do and you are, you sound like me.  I find it so frustrating when I go to buy my girls clothes and all I can find is pink, pink and more pink, so despite my dislike of pink I've been forced to embrace it.  So this week I decided to make a layout about the colour I dislike most and the one that makes up the majority of my endless rounds of washing.

I didn't want this layout to be too structured, so I mixed alot of different techniques and elements to give a bit of a different feel.  To make this layout you'll need.
* Fancy Pants "About a Girl" papers - Rosalie, Olivia, Kenley & Striped Girl
* Letter stickers - American Craft Thickers & Making Memories Mini Alphas
* Chipboard - 2 Crafty Tree, Grass and birds
* Mesh Ribbon
* Green Tara Paper String
* Mini Clothes Pegs - from a craft shop
* Versa Colour Inks
* Twinklets Diamond Dust and Black Glitter
* Flower sprays
* Paint
* Thread

1.  First mix up some hot pink paint and splash it onto the dark side of Rosalie paper, which will become your base paper, and leave to dry

2. Tear some side pieces out of the base paper and on the exposed torn edges, ink with varying shades of pink ink.  I've used Opera Pink and Cinnamon Versa Colour.  Position "About a Girl" Kenley paper at the back and cut around the holes so you can keep the majority of the paper for another project.

3.  Start stitching around the whole edge of the Rosalie base paper with pink thread.

4.  I usually add my title last but as the American Craft Thickers I wanted to use are larger than what I would normally go for, I added my title next to make sure everything else would balance.  And as my photos is of clothes on the washing line, I also wanted my title to look they were on a washing line too.  To make the line, I took some hot pink mesh ribbon and twisted it with double sided tape on the inside to make the twist stick.  I then stapled this onto the base papers and attached the letters with mini clothes pegs.

5.  Then to attach my photo, I coloured some Green Tara Paper Ribbon with Versa Colour Ink (Tanyah has pink ribbon in the shop...I just didn't have any!!), tied it to the "O" in the title and stapled the other end to the base papers.  I then attached the photo with more mini clothes pegs.

6.  Finally with my embellishments, I wanted them to embrace the pink theme as well and then arranged in the bottom left hand corner.

• From "Striped Girl" I cut the pink and green spot scalloped strip, cut into sections and used the reverse side as well
• Cut a piece of hot pink mesh ribbon 
• Inked some 2Crafty Grass chipboard in varying green Versa Colour inks - bringing in some green from the photo and balancing out the use of pink.
• Inked a 2 Crafty Tree chipboard in pink Versa Colour ink and added Diamond Dust and Black Glitter.
• Cut the pink flowers of a flower spray and attached them to the tree.
• Covered another chipboard bird with "Olivia" paper.

And there you have it - a layout with the Fancy Pants "About a Girl" papers where I have embraced my inner pink!

Using multiple photos - a double layout by Sue Smith

This week I have made a double layout featuring the totally cute Imaginisce Birthday Bash range and lots of photos that I took of my son 23 years ago. Just click on the photo below for a closer look....



Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming when we are confronted with using lots of photos to tell a story without doing multiple layouts. That was the case with these photos of my son's birthday. I managed to cull them down to 8 photos, and so to be able to fit them all on my layout (and still have room for the title and other embellishments), I decided to trim them around the edge of the main subject. Another reason I did this was because most of the backgrounds in these photos detracted from the overall look as you can see below....



After cutting them out, I coloured the cut edge with a light brown marker just to take away the starkness of the white on the side which was visible at some angles, then arranged the photos to tell the story, overlapping some and raising others up with foam DST.



Here is a list of the materials I have used for this layout...

I did a lot of cutting out with the Imaginisce Birthday Bash patterned papers. This range is double-sided heavy weight paper and on one side of each of the papers, the detail has been gloss-embossed which gives them a lovely finish. From the Wish Big paper...

I roughly cut out a line of the candles to layer over the the edge of the photos and the mesh; then I cut some lines of the 'Happy Birthday To You' words from Hip Hip Hooray paper...

and placed these strips over the candles on the layout.
I cut out some of the bunting from the Birthday Banners paper...

to embellish the top right-hand corner of the layout, and finally, I covered a large chipboard numeral 3 with the Surprise paper...

and filed the edges of the covered chipboard to make a white border which gives a more finished-off look.
