Scrapbooking Challenge and step-by-step tutorial ...

Hello wonderful ladies! It has been a while since I posted here, but I thought I let you know about a Scrapbooking Challenge for the this month: June 2011. The Scrappassion International Blog has chosen this challenge for you:

Take the advertisement shown below as inspiration for your layout.

You can choose to be inspired by certain colours, the design with the 8 rectangles, shapes like the swirls and butterflies, pictures of angels, coke bottles, whatever really. You can also choose to get inspiration of one of the eight pictures, the words (like Love, Play etc.) This challenge really has no limits!

Once you have made your layout, please send an email to Ria before the 30th of June.

This is the layout that I made. I based it on the colours of the first and third picture. I also used these pictures to look at the design and used lots of swirls.

This month I wanted to create a so called 'hybrid layout', which is a layout with combined traditional (paper) and digital scrapbooking elements. The digital elements are 'freebies' I downloaded in 2008 (yes, three years ago)! They are designed by 'The Ettes' and you can find their blog HERE.

Since I just cannot use Photoshop well, I decided to go back to my all time favourite : Microsoft Publisher. I first added a picture of Emma and placed that in the middle of my document. I added a title across the photo. I used shadow to make the letters stand out more. I added some swirls. I 'picked'some colours from the swirls and changed my font colours to make it match. Then I printed the whole sheet, which looked like this:

I carefully cut around the swirls and letters to make it look like this:

I printed another sheet with swirls, which I wanted to use to further embellish my layout:

Here is a picture of what the printed and cut swirls look like:

Using dark green cardstock as a background, I added two shades of orange and some white to create a colourful page:
I adhered the photo and swirls:

Using three different punches, I punched butterflies and flowers. Did you know that Tan has punches for sale at 45% discount. Click HERE to see what's still available!

I added my punched shapes to my layout, added some more pearls and done!

Happy scrapping! Love,

Ingeborg.

Using digital stamps by Ingeborg Dijkstra

I recently discoverd so called 'digital stamps'. I know, I know ... I am a bit of a slow learner with some things, because some of you have probably discovered these years ago.
I have bought a number of digital stamps, but there are also quite a few free digital stamps for you to download. One of my favourite places to look for digital stamps is Raindrops Echo Designs by Ann Vento. I downloaded the images and sentiments that I liked and put them in a publisher file. This is what my document looked like:

This is what my digital stamps looked like when printed on Kraft Cardstock:

This is what Ann writes about her free files:

'Thanks for taking an interest in the free files (digital stamps and/or sentiments, SVG, SCUT files, etc.) that I offer on my blog. The files that I've created using Inkscape/SCAL software can be used with SCAL as cutting files for your Cricut. The digital stamps/sentiments are usually created with royalty-free clipart and/or fonts; you can print out these digital stamps like others that you may have. You are free do whatever you like with them, but the only thing I ask is that if you use or share them in any way, you link back to this blog. I would really appreciate it, as I have put a lot of time and effort into making these files :) Other than that, enjoy, and I would LOVE to see how you've used them!'
So ... back to the card. I started with a piece of kraft cardstock 12" x 6" and folded it to make a 6" square. I cut a piece of paper (Master from the Upstairs Downstair Collection) slightly smaller to fit neatly onto the square card.
I added a few pieces of a small Bible, which I bought in a thrift shop to use on my cards and layouts. I also cut out one of the digital stamps and put it in the middle of the card. I added a piece of cotton lace too:
I also cut one of the 'digital bingo cards'. I made some 'rolls' out of the Bible pages and stamped a few swirls on a transparency with black Stazon ink. I added a circle piece of chipboard too:

I finally cut one of the digital butterflies and added it in the top right corner. Done!

If you do get a chance to use them, leave us a comment or head on over to the GALLERY and share your work with us! It always gives me a buzz to see how people have used my designs!

Digi Freebie for November

Wow - is it really November already? I can't believe how fast this year has flown by!

For November I have created 2 slightly grungy overlays for you to have a bit of a play with. One is all black and inky around the edges, the other looks like you've taken to a piece of white-core cardstock with a sanding block.

You can pick them up from HERE.

As always, if you do get a chance to play with them, we'd love to get a look at the results! Head on over to the GALLERY and lets us have a peek. While you're there you can check out the amazing entries for this week's Embellish This competition!

Digital Freebie for September

It's Kylie here...

Can you believe it? It's September already! Spring has sprung, but sadly we're out of warm weather for a while it seems. A nice couple of weeks, and then the cold comes back again.

To keep you warm and cosy I have created some digital papers for you to have a play with. They kept me warm on a windy night (hence the name), and I hope they'll give you something to do until things warm up again...
They're all a little bit grungy, crushed and inked, and the patterned papers have a cool concentric circle thing going on...

Of course 4shared has a silly 100MB limit so the download has had to be split into 2...

To download the PATTERNED PAPERS click HERE.

To download the PLAIN PAPERS click HERE.

If you get a chance to use them, head on over to Scrap N Craft With T's GALLERY and let us have a peek!
