Playing around with mixed media..

Hope today finds you well.
Here is another page I did while I was away.... exploring and finding out what works and doesn't with mixed media.

I really recommend just doing this cause you learn so so much. Don't be scared for if it didn't work the way you wanted then you will know next time what you liked or what you would change.

I have used a napkin, daubers, spritz spray (clear snaps), aqua water crayons, modge podge, 2 crafty, a2z and tiddlebitz chipboard.

How did i do it?....

• I rubbed different colour crayons onto my stamp, spritzed with water and stamped half off the page in a few sections.
• On the sideof my page .....  i inked my chipboard shapes using the sprays, daubers and inks.
• The raw chipboard i adhered onto my page first
• Then placed all over my page some modge podge
• Finding my serviette i separated the 3 ply into a 2 ply. 
• I then adhered over the raw chipboard and page and made as many wrinkles out of the serviette that i could by drawing the paper in to make the wrinkles.
• I then found my second layer which was the coloured part wasn't sicking so i took it off to find that the centre part had stuck down where i had more modge podge than anywhere else and thought why not add this into the feature leaving the background white.
• When dry I used my daubers and inked in the centre
• Then adhered the chipboard shapes wherever I desired. 

 There really isn't a wrong or right just have fun and PLAY!

Creating your own Patterned Paper - by Annie Zorzo

From time to time, many a creative person will lose their mojo.  Mine has been on walk about of late and coming up with something that I'm happy to share with you has been a challenge.  Usually to get out of a rut like this you can use an inspirational sketch, play around with some gorgeous new products and papers from Tanyah or, like I did this week - just have a play.  With no project in mind and therefore no pressure, you can get back to having fun and might just come up with something that you love.

So what did I play with....Daubers!  These are great and have so many uses.  You can colour fabrics, lace and ribbon, give some colour to chipboards and like ink you can use them on stamps.  Daubers have a sheen to them so when your dauber inked project catches the light, your project glows.  With the daubers, I created my own stamped patterned paper...and I'm going to show you how I did it.

You'll need:

• White, or another pale colour, cardstock 
• Radiant Rain Daubers.  I've used three different shades of the one colour - Apple Blossom, Pink Azalea and Ginger Flower.
• Versa Colour Inkpads.  I've used an old heavily used VersaColour Pine Cone and a new one
• Stamps.  I've used three, a Basic Grey Flower, KaiserCraft Butterfly and a Prima Script stamp

HINT:  When using daubers, make sure you shake them up until you feel your arm is going to fall off.  All the particles that give the daubers their sheen settle on the bottom of the bottle and you need these mixed into the ink if you want your project to catch the light and shine.

1.  The stamp you use first is going to create a repeating pattern covering your cardstock.  Using the palest colour dauber, ink up your stamp and start stamping until your whole cardstock is covered.  I used the Basic Grey flower stamp and Apple Blossom dauber for this first step.  Don't worry if the dauber ink looks heavy on your stamp in some places, this will add to the whole affect when your finished.

2.  Clean the dauber ink off your stamp and then with your old heavily used Versacolour ink pad, ink up the same stamp again.  Lightly stamp over your first dauber inked stamps with the second colour.  Get as close as you can to an exact stamp over the top of the first but slightly off will not matter.  This will add some depth to the first stamp.

3.  Moving onto your second stamp and second tonal dauber colour, (Kaisercraft butterfly and Pink Azalea for me), ink up your stamp and imprint around your cardstock randomly.

HINT:  My stamp had an intricate pattern.  With the dauber inks, if you want this pattern to show through, stamp onto a scrap piece of paper first and the stamp onto your project with the second application.  Your pattern will show up better.  On the below, the left is first application and right is the second.  I wasn't concerned with the pattern of the stamp applied with the dauber as the next step brings it out...

4.  Clean the dauber ink off your stamp and then with your new or re-inked Versacolour ink pad, ink up the same stamp again.  Go over your first dauber inked stamps with the second colour.  This will add a bold definition of your stamps intricate pattern.

5.  Moving onto your last stamp and the darkest dauber tonal colour, in my project this is the Prima Script stamp and Ginger Flower dauber.  Randomly ink up your stamp, heavily in some parts, light in others and do not cover the whole stamp.  You don't want the entire stamp to come through onto your project.  Randomly stamp your paper.

6.  Finally, using both your heavily used and new versa colour ink pads, randomly brush across your project.  Both along the sides and randomly across the middle, this will dirty up your pale cardstock background and make your patterned paper look a bit more grungy.

There you have it, your own patterned paper.  Use it straight away on a project or add it to your stash.  So if you're feeling creatively challenged, take the pressure off yourself and go and have a play.  You never know, after a play, your mojo might just come back!

Tips/Techniques
*   Apply Glossy Accents (or Dimensional Magic) to the edges of flower petals and in droplets here and there on your flowers to enhance the flowers and give the impression of dew drops.

*   When buying die-cut patterned paper or cardstock, buy two.  That way you can use one and keep the other for a template.  That is how I created the scalloped circle on this LO.

*   Don’t forget your old stash.  The Making Memories fabric covered buttons I used for my flower centres I have had for years and I doubted I would ever use them.  In the end they were the perfect touch for this LO.

*   Sometimes I apply my rub-ons to acetate and to create a new embellishment.  Such a technique would have been perfect for the dragon flies on this LO however it already had so much dimension, texture and visual interest that I decided to apply the rub-ons direct to the LO itself.

*   Ribbon can be effectively used by looping it and attaching it beneath flowers to create ‘leaves’.

RAIDANT RAIN DAUBERS - Techniques by Alison Callcott

Here is an idea and sample from Alison Callcott using the Raidant Rain Daubers.

I love these daubers how they can be used in so many ways with very little mess if you want to.

Material list..

* Radiant Rain Dauber - Snapdragon

* Big Shot Circles die

* Aqualip purple pen and Inkssentials white opaque pen

* SU purple cardstock, generic white cardstock

* white beaded crocheted flowers

* white denim, white tulle, white mini ric rac, and white felt

* a doily

* corner rounder punch

Instructions...

Step 1
If you have some tue, felt, ric rac that doesn't match the colour you want than you can use the Raidant Rain Daubers to die to the colour that you desire.

Alison didn't didn't have the purple colour in OZEDIES she wanted to colour her items so she decided to due with the Raidant Rain Daubers instead and decided to use the snapdragon Radiant Rain Dauber.

Step 2
Shack the Dauber until the ball was moving freely, then shack it some more LOL!

Step 3
Then poured some of the liquid into a plastic container and dipped my items into the liquid, ensuring that I swirled them around to get the shimmer effect happening as the shimmer sediment settled straight to the bottom of the container.

Step 4
Where possible, squeezed the excess liquid out of the items. Then dyed before placing them on an old towel to dry.

Step 5
Once the items were finished dyeing. The liquid was sirled again and then simply poured it back into the Dauber bottle.

OZEDIES Techniques...By Alison Callcott

Here is some samples of uses of the OZEDIES... this is a liqud die that works prefectly with cotton fabric or with paper.


Laces ...Row 1 – white lace
Row 2 – white lace dyed with Regency Rose

Row 3 – white eyelet lace dyed with Turquoise
Row 4 – white eyelet lace
Row 5 – white eyelet lace dyed with Luscious Lime

Row 6 – white circle lace

* All the laces were dyed with 100% full strength dye and left in dye for varying short times to achieve results obtained.

Blue denim swatches ...

This example is used from recycled blue denim (from old pair of jeans)

Here is a Card that Alison Callcott has made with some blue denim recycled from an old pair of jeans which she has dyed with Ozecraft Chocolate and Turquoise dyes. Alison has included examples of the original blue denim above the card.

Other products used when making the card are:

• white cardstock,
• brown velvet cardstock,
• Big Shot Circles die,
• Sizzix Round & Round border die,
• white eyelets and
• Kaiser rhinestones.

Again the denim was dyed with 100% full strength dye.

Step 1
Alison found both the Turquoise and Chocolate dyes to be very strong so the blue denim was only in the dyes for a short amount of time.
Step 2
Additionally, to make the most of my dyes, Alison squeezed the denim circles to ensure any excess dyed returned to the container she was using.
Step 3
Alison then laid the denim circles on an old towel so as to not stain any surface and they dried reasonably quickly ... as quickly as any wet fabric would.

When using the Ozecraft dyes Alison primarily used small recycled yoghurt containers to pour the dye into.

Dripping Glue/embossing powder

This is such a fun technique and your able to make it look like rain/snow etc

USING GLUE!

Step1 Colour your shape... I used twinkling H20's but daubers would be better

STEP 2 Place glue running down your sape

STEP 3 Add glitter and wait to dry


USING CLEAR UTEE

STEP 1 Ink the top of your letter with a watermark ink like versamark

STEP 2 Sprinkle clear UTEE, heat and reapply the powder a few times



STEP 3 Turn your shape on its end and let the wet UTEE run down your shape


STEP 4 make sure the UTEE is wet and hot and sprinkle the glitter on the top

STEP 5 reheat the glitter


NOW you can use rubons/stickers onto of the shape for great fun affects.

Technque using Twinkling H2O's

Here is some ideas on how to use twinkling h2o's I have used 4x4 canvas, doodlebug cardstock, stampit stamp, CI ribbon, Prima flowers and vareity of rubons and ribbons.

• I have painted the paint of the Twinkling H2O's onto the canvas,
• Stamped using the cream of the Twinkling H2O's,
• Painted using differnt colours and adding glitter.
• Coloured the ribbon,
• Twinkling H2o'ed over the metal
• and Twinkling H2O'ed the wood 'B'

The below canvas is one I am is a work in progress and yet to be finished but wanted to share where I am up to with it!

Here I have used the Twinkling H2o's paint and cream. Then I have placed a mixture of rubons, ribbon, magic mesh and stamps to give this look!
