A Layout to share for Mothers day!

Today is the day we celebrate and remember someone very special in our lives. For those of us that are fortunate to have children to treat us something special to say thankyou for what we do. Its the small things nothing big that makes me put a smile on my face and feel loved...

Another Single layout creation playing with gel mediums, paint & Templates

How are we all going with our kiddies back at school now and life starting to get back to normal for most of us. Life can bring so many up's and downs  for us. This is why I  love creating.... creating for yourself  is a fantastic way to explore lots about you and what you like.

I have found the Bright and Beautiful  RAK pack from Nic creates has inspired me to do just this lately. I love these bright colours so so much but really hadn't explored this combination before and had so much fun doing so.

Card using Nic Creates bright and Beautiful range...

Today I wanted to share with you a card I have created using the Nic Creates, Bright and Beautiful Range This RAK/Embellishment  kit... you can purchase it from my store or direct which ever is easier for you.

I have used:

• Nic Creates RAK/ embellishment kit
• Prima Marketing - Paisley range
• Prima Flowers and bling
• Bella alphas and cards
• Distressing tool
• Zig writer felt pen.

How to create this...

• Cut a 4x6 paper and tear the bottom edge
• place the gathered nic creates gathered ribbon at the bottom.
• Then add the teared edge over the top
• Group 2 Prima flowers at the top
• Place some ribbon as the stem
• then add the Nic creates rolled flower.
• ALL IS DONE AND TO ENJOY!

A Easter Card for you!

As this is quite a big weekend for lots of us and if your travelling to be with family and friends I hope you all are traveling safely.
I wanted to share with you a quick and easy card I have made and wish you all a happy and Safe Easter.

We are hoping if the weather is good to us to go fishing with the kids. Fishing isn't something i really love but i do enjoy taking the pics....lol!

Playing around with mixed media..

Hope today finds you well.
Here is another page I did while I was away.... exploring and finding out what works and doesn't with mixed media.

I really recommend just doing this cause you learn so so much. Don't be scared for if it didn't work the way you wanted then you will know next time what you liked or what you would change.

I have used a napkin, daubers, spritz spray (clear snaps), aqua water crayons, modge podge, 2 crafty, a2z and tiddlebitz chipboard.

How did i do it?....

• I rubbed different colour crayons onto my stamp, spritzed with water and stamped half off the page in a few sections.
• On the sideof my page .....  i inked my chipboard shapes using the sprays, daubers and inks.
• The raw chipboard i adhered onto my page first
• Then placed all over my page some modge podge
• Finding my serviette i separated the 3 ply into a 2 ply. 
• I then adhered over the raw chipboard and page and made as many wrinkles out of the serviette that i could by drawing the paper in to make the wrinkles.
• I then found my second layer which was the coloured part wasn't sicking so i took it off to find that the centre part had stuck down where i had more modge podge than anywhere else and thought why not add this into the feature leaving the background white.
• When dry I used my daubers and inked in the centre
• Then adhered the chipboard shapes wherever I desired. 

 There really isn't a wrong or right just have fun and PLAY!

I thought i would share with you a page I did in my journal....Hope you enjoy and like?

Now are you wondering how this was done????

• Firstly I used Tattered Angels Screens and placed over my page
• Using the spriz sprays. I sprayed over the top randomly
• Than using my water crayons. I rubbed the crayon onto my tree stamp, sprized with water and stamped onto my pge
• Then using the NEW Tim Holtz Daubers I dabbed around the edges and sprayed some water here an there to make it run a little...
• all done for now...
• Remember it's all about playng, their  is no wrongs just enjoy and see what you come up with.

Where Have I BEEN!........

Hello to my regular readers....

I hear you all asking where have i been and when is my blog going to be updated??????

Since Closing my REAL Shop at wollongbar, life became busier than ever with both kiddies starting new schools and settling in. To top it off both are doing more after school activities than ever just to keep me on my toes...lol! the main thing is they are healthy and doing extreamly well at school.

On another note I haven't been very well at all for quite a while and needed some time out. I have scrapbooked a fair bit for Bella if you want to check out their blog you will see my kiddies in ones I have done.

So my focus other than trying to get better has been to have some time out and lots of family time.  I have managed to visit our friends at Urbanville. Which my hubby and kids  enjoyed the car rally. A part I love about this beautiful country where there is nothing to do but enjoy the mountains, creeks, and clean air.

 The kids made a raft, can you beleive they had an axe and cut their own logs to make this!.... well it only just floated with only one on at a time....

I managed to go away for a weekend with a couple of girls at Woody Heads with no kids or hubby. Now this is when my inspiration started to flow again that I  so badly want  to do more now. With no one to say 'hey mum' for a whole weekend!...lol. Can you imagine the uninterupted bliss sitting on these rocks watching the waves crashing as you draw whatever comes to mind!.... sounds bliss hey!. I just wish it could happen more often.

Our family often take little day outings and we ventured up the gold coast for some shopping and stopping in at Coolangata for our traditional family coffee/icecream and a play and sit on the beach.

All this amazing family time and timeout has lead me to book into Louise Nelson's class and Jane Clark's Class for the Papercraft expo in Brisbane on the 11 June and SOOOO can't wait and hope many of you are able to make a fantastic event.  I know I sure can't wait to see my good friends again and meet some new ones too!

I will leave you with one of my inspirations I had completed while I was at Woody Heads. I so badly wanted to start an art journal but mainly just to play with products and see what I come up with. I have others but can't give it all away at once..hehe...I will share the others soon

• Now are you wondering how i did this???
• Do you have any stencils of butterflies??? if not don't worry, Why not draw and cut out one or even punch one out and use the negitive part as a stencil!...
• All I have done is used some Distress Inks and overlapped the colours.
• Inked some grass, this can be a stencil or cut out your own!
• Using the spriz sprays and some extra spray of water. I sprayed and allowed drops of colour to run down my page....
• I would recomend giving this a try just for fun and see what you are able to come up with!

Roll Your Own

I just love all the different effects you can get by rolling and curling paper. Must be a left over from all those boring functions with paper tablecloths and wet drink rings. Anyway heare another layout that features edge rolling.

Together

Uses: Ruby Rock-it Upstairs Downstairs papers and ATC cards, pale blue and brown cardstock, two tone red ribbon, Kaisercraft alphabet stickers and mini alphabet.

Instructions:

1. Cut patterned paper to 8 1/2" x 7" . Cut a 1" x 8 1/2" strip off the bottom of this. Cut an 8 1/2" x 1 1/4" strip of matching patterned paper. On top and bottom edges, wet and curl back and forth between your thumb and index finger, tearing a little here and there. distress side edges.

2. In pencil, mark an 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" square in the centre of background paper. Attach largest patterned paper piece at the top, leave a gap and attach matching strip, then 1' wide strip.

3. Double mat photo. Ink and distress edges. Attach 1/2" in from the left and 1 1/4" down from the top of patterned paper.

4. Attach title below photo on matching paper strip.

5. Cut bottom of one ATC card with fancy scissors. Ink edges of both cards. Punch hole through top of card and tie ribbon. Attach cards at side of photo.

6. Attach butterflies in top left corner and around cards.

A quick layout for a quiet evening at home.

Echo Park 'Little Girl' range - a layout by Sue Smith

I am so in love with the Echo Park 'Little Girl' range, and couldn't wait to use them with my favourite photos of my daughter Elise taken over 20 years ago. Unfortunately after struggling with seemingly all the right ingredients for over 8 hours, the final result is more like how you shouldn't use these papers.



If I hadn't planned to use it for today's blog post, I probably would have put it away for a couple of days and returned with fresh 'eyes' and perhaps I would have ended up with something I was happy with.

Using a sketch for a layout and a card by Ingeborg Dijkstra

Last week I made this layout:

I decided to create a sketch based on my layout, which looks like this:

When I created the sketch I thought it would be fun to turn that sketch into a design for a card. The square shape and strong lines seemed perfect for a card!

I started by creating a sentiment out of journaling card from the Summerhouse Collection from Ruby Rock It. Using a craft knife I cut the white lined area out of the cardstock to make a frame for my sentiment.

I stamped my sentiment on a scrap piece of matching paper from the same collection.

I stamped it on another sheet as well. I wanted to cut the heart out of another colour to make it more colourful.
I added three strips of paper. I used the back and the front of the 'Journal' paper.

I added my sentiment on the left and added a small strip of 'Tropic' paper across the card. These gorgeous papers are now only $ 0.50 each! And here it is: the card based on a sketch based on a layout:

Why not make it yourself and get the most out of your stash - then you can spend more on new products guilt free.

Here are some really easy "make your own" effects anyone can try.

A Frog

Uses:

Three Bugs in a Rug - Simple Pleasures

brown and kraft cardstock

home made flowers

black journal pen

tiny alphabet

string and felt

1. Make a patterned paper frame by hand cutting a 9" square. Fold it in half and then in half again over the top. Cut out the inside square leaving a 3/4" border (note - don't cut across any outside edges or you won't have a frame). Unfold.

2. Scalloped borders. Cut a 7" x 2" strip of patterned paper (I used the reverse of my patterned paper). Fold it into three. Hand draw scallops along the bottom edge making sure there is a valley at each folded end. Cut out and unfold. Repeat for a 4 1/2" x 1" strip.

3. For the felt brackets I glued the felt to thin chipboard first to give it strength. I drew the brackets on the back and cut out. Gives great texture and Tanyah has heaps of colours in felt.

4. There are so many ways you can make your own flowers. But this time I wanted to layer them so I used a daisy wheel and paper string. If you love these but don't have the gear Tanyah sells these daisies in many colours.

5. I used a punch to mat my small photo in cardstock. There are lots of punches you can use to make mini frames and don't forget about those fancy edge scissors.

6. Doodling and sewing are great ways to add a little extra emphasis to a layout. When I sew on a page I poke the holes first with a poster board pin into an old mouse pad - makes it so much easier. You can sew with just about anything you can get through a needle eg string, embroidery thread, ribbon, wire, raffia.

A Mixed Media Canvas - by Sue Smith

Well this week when I sat down to do some scrapping for this blog post, nothing happened...I had no idea what to do, and nothing inspired me. So I decided just to play around with some canvas, paints and any other bits and pieces that took my fancy.

I had no idea how it would turn out, but decided to take some progress photos along the way in case it was decent enough to share....and here is the finished result (just click on any photo for a closer look)...



First of all I started with a piece of canvas that had already been primed with gesso and just roughly slathered it with some watered down acrylic, and then dug into my big box of ancient music, ripped some pages and started to stick the pieces on with Matte Mod Podge....



The music book I was using had an interesting graphic on the front (complete with ancient stickytape) so I decided to incorporate that as well....



Some more bits of music paper and then some white gesso over the top....



Some more paint....



Once it was dry, I added some gel pen lines around the edge of the question mark...



I then used numerous distress inks to highlight the details of the graphic and some other areas of the canvas....



To finish off, I added a big swirl of Croco Crackling paint (white) and 24 hours later, when it had crackled I coloured that with distress ink also...



The next three photos show some close-up detail....

'Smile' : a step-by-step layout by Ingeborg Dijkstra

This week I wanted to create a layout about our son Rick, who makes us laugh all the time. The journaling reads:

'If you feel a SMILE begin, don't leave it undetected.

Let's start and epidemic quick and get the world infected!'

The three photos show how he is starting with a 'neutral look' (trying not to laugh), but with a gorgeous smile on the third photo! How I love that boy! Anyway, let's quickly show you how I made this layout. I started with three strips of paper and place them on the right side of the cardstock. I used papers and embellishments from the SummerHouse Collection from Ruby Rock'It. The two papers I used are called 'Tropic' and 'Journal'.

I placed a photo on each strip of paper:

I added a journaling card from the same collection (Summerhouse Narrrative Pad, now only $ 3.90 for 24 sheets!) on the left. I added my title and journaling. I added some orange rhinestones, punched a few stars and added a bit of embroidery thread and done!

Step by step layout

Photo: one 4" x 6" landscape photo

Uses: Creative Imaginations - Old Guys Rule

Black, white and red cardstock

adhesive backed embossing foil

red mesh ribbon or 2" wide sequin waste

brads, cog, wire

title stickers

Instructions:

1. Cut foil to the size of embossing plate. Emboss and lightly swipe Staz On ink over raised bits. Attach to white cardstock 1" in on the left 4 3/4" down from the top sideways.

2. Cut patterned paper to 7" wide and tear the bottom edge so it is 7 1/2" to 8 3/4" long. Ink and curl edges. Attach 1/2" in from right edge 2" down from the top of white cardstock.

3. Attach mesh across layout 5 1/2" down from the top. I used staples and tape to secure.

4. Double mat phot with cream then black cardstock. Distress edges. attach 3 1/2" in from the left edge and 3 1/2" down from the top.

5. Attach title to 1 1/4" wide strip of red cardstock and attach to piece of chipboard for dimension. Ink edges and attach overlapping bottom corner of photo.

6. Cut 3" x 1" piece of red cardstock and chipboard. Attach and ink edges. Cut out car from patterned paper and attach with tape and 3D dots where it overhangs block. Embellish block with brads, cog, wire and attach to top corner of layout.

7. Cut narrow strips of red cardstock for journalling. Ink edges and attach 7" in from the left under patterned paper. Ink edges aof layout.

Ruby Rock-It Summerhouse Range - A Layout by Sue Smith

Today's layout uses the bright modern Ruby Rock-It Summerhouse range and really is perfect for those summertime layouts. These patterned papers are 200gsm cardstock and are double-sided.....



Here is a list of the goodies I used to make this....

* Trim Curls Self-adhesive scroll ribbon

* Kaisercraft Fozz Fonts - Fonzo Alpha (white)

* Docrafts Anita's Calendar Tabs

To make the layout, I took the RR Hot Hot Hot paper

and cut a large square, and then made some random triangular cuts and stuck it to the cardstock moving every second strip out a couple of cms to give that 'ray' effect.

I cut the blue portion from the RR Streak paper

and then cut a large scallop along one edge, then inked the edges and outlined with black gel pen, sticking it down so that it sat half below where the photo was going.

I stuck the white scallopy ribbon along the left hand side and added some slightly crumpled mesh over that before securing the photo in place.

I added a title using the 3 different alphas and outlined them with black gel pen, and then attached the cute little calendar tab after colouring the edges slightly.

To finish off I found this chippy diecut from WOW that kind of looks like bubbles, and thought it would go well to embellish the layout. Here it is in it's raw state...




If I have plenty of time, I love playing around with raw chippy...it's so much fun.
With this one I covered the shape with lots of Versamark...you really do need to dab all over it numerous times to get it sticky enough as the chippy is so porous in it's raw state (alternatively you could cover it first with a paint like Gesso and you wouldn't need so much ink then). I then sprinkled it with the sparkly Judkins embossing powder, and applied heat. Then I applied more Versamark to the 'bubbles' on the shape, and sprinkled with the zinnia (green) UTEE and applied heat. I then decided I didn't like the sparkly bits, so I Versamarked over them and sprinkled with the blue iris UTEE and applied heat. Then while the UTEE was still melted I sprinkled a little bit of green over the blue in places and applied heat once again.

It's a pity I didn't think to take progress photos of all the stages because all of that probably doesn't make much sense. But here are some close-ups of the finished embellishment...
