Embellish it Comp - Week 8 Challenge - "Mixed Media It"

Welcome to the Week 8 Challenge. This week’s theme is “Mixed Media It”.

The beauty of creating a Mixed Media piece of art is that there are no solid rules. Anything you choose can be added to your work. So the guidelines for this week’s challenge will be:

Create a mini album – you must create a mini album with at least 3 different materials as the base pages. Two of your pages will need to be created out of fabric. (I have used canvas/ heavy weight calico, cardstock, corrugated card) - your acetate embellishment page (described below) is not counted as one of these pages.

All pages need to combine paint, ink and collage. The collage style can include anything you want – ribbon, photos, journaling, other embellishments, but every page must include at least one button and stitching (either hand or machine).

Your embellishment for this artwork is to create at least one acetate page to go into your album – this page is to be a different shape to your album shape. This page will need to have patterned paper, stitching and a word or journaling.

Here is my example for you to have a peek at....
This page was created with canvas fabric. I have also used watercolor paints, tim holtz inks, buttons, ribbons, random stitching, rub ons, lace & ribbons and a transparency over the photograph.

The page on the right has been created using acetate.

I have created this next page using cardstock and texture paste, this was to give the page dimension.

The page on the left is cardstock and the page on the right was created with canvas.

The page on the left was created out of corrugated card. the page on the right is another acetate page.

The page on the left has been created out of acetate to which i have added fabric. the page on the right is another canvas page.

My final page was created out of cardstock with a stamped transparency and fabric added.

Good luck with your creations. I hope that you enjoy this challenge

Wow, what a stunning example Tracey, absolutely gorgeous!!! Unfortunately, I think my time in the competition has come to an end as I am teaching all day tomorrow with a crop until midnight, then my daughter turns 4 on Sunday, so I may run out of time for this although I would love to. Thankyou to everyone for keeping me in till now and look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with :):):)

My jaw is on the floor!! What a stunning mini album Tracey! I love the idea of this but actually making it is freaking me out! Nothing like a great challenge hey?

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely stunning but where do I start?

Please forgive the idiot here but I've never made a mini-album before and I have a question. Well, I actually I have many but will limit it to one! With a page, you are obviously decorating both sides - do you decorate the two individually and stick together or do you only do one and be careful where you sew, hole punch, put a brad so it's incorporated into the page on the back?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out with it. Good luck everyone, I think we might need it!!!

WTG Trace!!! I love love love love love love your album. What a brilliant challenge. I wish I had the time to give it a bash. Good luck girls. Maybe rather than focussing on the album as a whole, just take it page by page. Wholy Cow I'm feeling for you all! Alz :)

hi all - glad you liked the challenge. The album took me two nights to make, so you all should be good to get it done i hope. I do hope i have not scared you all off... it will be easy, i have seen your creations so far so this should be a piece of cake because i know how talented you all are.

Sorry to here you are thinking of not having a go tiff... i am sure you will be able to throw something together though.... you have 3 days after the birthday... hope your little one has a great day.

And to answer the question - I made each page individually - some are glued together and some are sewn together. Planning each page is the best way to go especially when you are sewing, using brads and eyelets.

Good luck to you all!

Lovely sample, but this challenge is really not my style, so I hope I can come up with something that fits the criteria, and that I actually like. I also hope I can get it done in time, this is a massive challenge considering the time frame. Sorry to hear you may not have time Tiff. I hope you can squeeze it in. Good luck everyone. Off to start planning.

WOW!! what a challenge....gorgeous example. Even though I was eliminated this week, I was gonna stay on in the challenge section, but I'm in the same boat as Tiff. Picked up extra shifts at the new 2nd job I started this week...worked today and have work tommorow and end of month for our own business, so I'll see how i go, but bit doubtful I'll fit it in.... Good luck to all those left in the comp!!

Wow!!! All of you that hold down jobs as well as scrap. As a SAHM I'm feeling very lucky and also very slack....should I be spending so long scrapping or going out and getting a job? I say this after having spend my 3rd night and half a day on this challenge and I'm still not done. Maybe getting a job would be easier and pay me more!!!
