Third Thrusday Tips &Techniques

I have a huge appology for being late with this one this month. Due to a local flood and being evacuated it wasn't possible. But thankfully it didn't come up as high as they first thought originally...So we are all safe home now and the shop is all fine and no need to be worried.

EMBELISHMENTS................

For beginners I often find that your not sure what embellishments are... So what are classed as embellishments?
  • Stickers,
  • Rubons
  • Eyelets
  • Felt
  • brads
  • metal embellishments
  • transparencies
  • flowers
  • bling
  • Buttons
  • Pins
  • Slides
  • Charms
  • Clips
  • Tabs
  • Bows etc
Their is probably many more i have missed but i hope this helps...

Have you ever wondered what embellishments you need apose to ones you just like. Do you find yourself purchasing simply because you think they look cute but have no idea if you will use them let alone when or how....lol!

Well this was me for sure when i started scrapbooking. i LOVED stickers and though scrapping was all about sticking stickers on a layout... oh how wrong i was when i finally got past that!.... I had such a huge collection it was crazy that now my darling daughter and son enjoy using them to make cards to their friends......

So now apart from rubons/ alpha stickers i rarely touch a sticker these days..... Their are ways you can use stickers on your layouts and they look fantastic but here is some ideas of doing this...

  • Group your embelishments together so your eye dosen't wonder all over the page and don't distract your eye from looking at your photos.
  • If you put baby powder on the back of a sticker and use a styles or a shapping tool and shape your sticker and then use some foam tape on the back to pop it out.
  • Use stickers that are clear or DONT have a white edgeing around them..... I was told once that stickers with the white edging have a childish look about it... and i hadn't thought of it like that until then.

There are many many embellishments and one key thing to remember when using shaped embelishments is to ask yourself
  • Dose it relate to the page?
  • Sometimes it is their simply cause you are going through a fad at the time and you just have to put or have one on your layouts/projects......

LOVE TO KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS ...........

This month i have asked my design team of what embellishments they love using the most and what brands......

Here is what they had to say...
  • I love Embellishments. I think they make a page.
  • They give it that final touch.
  • Some of my favourite embellishments are: Buttons, flowers, Bling, felt, chipboard and textured ribbons.
  • These feature quite heavily on my pages.
  • Some of my favourite embellishments at the moment are Francheville “Cutie pie” buttons, 7 Gypsies Black and white polka dot gaffa tape and handmade sculpey buttons.
  • I also make a lot of my own embellishments from various mediums.
  • I think it gives them an “original” look to your work.

  • I can't live without rubons - I love them - swirls, straight decorative borders, alphas ... anything really. I especially love white ones - they look so striking against black cardstock.
  • So many companies are doing the most gorgeous rubons - I love American Crafts alot - so many elegant and current designs.
