It's all black and white...

Well done to those of you who have finished your Round II entries, and I must say... the  gallery is looking fabulous!
And speaking of fabulous... who has seen the latest black and white range from Imaginsice? 'To Love & Cherish' is the most divine collection of papers, stamps and embellishments and is just perfect for all things romantic!
Tanyah will be stocking the shelves very soon with this wonderful line of products, so be on the look out!

To make this set of cards I used the cutest little Imaginsice 'Snag em' flower stamp, and teamed it up with yellow card stock to give them a vibrant yet stylish look!

I just love the patterned paper I used on this candle, it is my favourite of the entire 'To Love & Cherish' line, and it has the most gorgeous sheen on one side. And guess how I stuck down the pearls on the mirror base? Yep, I used the latest and greatest little tool that will be in-store soon - the i-rock by Imaginisce (but more about that later)!

The black and white is gorgous on its own but don't be afraid to add some hints of another colour that will really 'pop' right off the page and make such a bold statement. I have made a row of roses using Core'dination card stock in varying hues of yellow for that WOW factor across the page!
So keep an eye out for 'To Love & Cherish' in the shop and I will be back again soon with an update on the i-rock!

This week's challenge is set by Kylie Abel.

The challenge is to create something using:

• cool colours

• some kind of title/lettering (handwritten/printed/alphas)

• an inventive hybrid embellishment.

We're guessing right now there are a lot of you sitting staring at your screen scared to death! But a "hybrid" embellishment isn't as scary as it sounds. Hybrid is basically just something that starts off on your computer, which you print out and put on your traditional project in some way. It can be a digital paper that you may have downloaded, a frame printed on transparancy, or even using your computer's fonts to create your journaling on a page.

We want you to be inventive with your hybrid element though... Come up with something as original as you can, something that is yours, something you can't buy in your local scrapbooking shop!

In Kylie's example, the butterflies she has used originally started out as a colouring-in page she found on Google Images. She made them smaller and printed them multiple times on a printable transparancy. Then she cut them out and adhered them to the frame with Glossy Accents.

'Sweet individual' a step-by-step layout by Ingeborg Dijkstra

We have two boys and a daughter and since I *LOVE* girly stuff, I tend to make more layouts about our daughter than about my boys. But ... I am trying to scrap our boys more and more (and still sneak in 'girly bits' - just don't tell them, okay) ... This layout is an example of a 'boyish' layout with girly elements in it. And guess what? Rick, our son featured in this layout, loves this page! So it is ... a win-win situation!

Materials:

• patterned paper 'Rhapsody' (Bella, Kindred Spirit)
• patterned paper 'Nonsense' (WeRMemoryKeepers)
• 'Adore' Card black (Jenni Bowlin)
• Layered Chipboard 'Nonsense' (WeRMemoryKeepers)
• stamps 'Slight Alterations' (Tim Holtz)
• a page from an ordinary note book
• a tag from a pair of jeans

I stamped around the border of the patterned paper to make the paper a bit rough and grungy.

I put the 'Adore Card' on an angle behind the patterned paper. I like the strong deep brown colour on the card, which helps to make it more 'boyish'.

I created a title using the layered chipboard from WeRMemory Keepers. I also used an arrow to point to my 'sweet individual' son Rick. This chipboard is adhesive and so easy to use. I also like how it has glitter elements and colours on it:
I cut thin strips of the 'Nonsense' patterned paper. Instead of adhering the strips flat and directly to the paper, I used staples and folded the strips to create a bit more dimension. I used a part of a page from a notebook to write my journaling.
I used a tag from a pair of jeans I bought for the boys recently to have a 'one of a kind' embellishment. I used staples and some folds (like I did with the paper strips at the top) to adhere the tag to the layout. I finished with a chipboard bird from the 'Nonsense Chipboard' set.

1        Using the Cut out piece I was able to determine the size of the card

2        Cut and fold card

3        Cut scraps to match the card size

4        Adhered to card, the horizontal strip adhered with dimensional squares

Jillibean soup layout - summertime beauty

Summertime Beauty – Jillibean soup papers




1. Use the green cardstock as your base

2. Use the white leaf as a mask and glimmermist or smooch or ink random leaves around the top , right side and bottom of page

3. Use the “brown rice” paper and cut to 7 inches by 7 inches. I have used a corner rounder and then inked the edges in black ink.

4. Take green Red peppers paper and cut to 1 and a half inches x 11 inches and ink both sides.

5. Take ribbon , attach adhesive tape and run along bottom of photo . I have scrunched it as I have gone

6. Take 3 inches x 7 inches of the birdhouse paper and trim corners and ink edges.

7. Attach photo overlapping the birdhouse paper.

8. Cut out a small birdhouse and attach on some leaves at bottom right side of photo

9. Add some flowers and a title and any journalling

THE THOUGHT BEHIND THE PROCESS

Children & Scrapbooking

At first I found it hard to let my children into my sacred place - 'The Craft Room', but eventually I saw the positive side of it all. If I created a small spot for them to be a part of my world it would give me a great sense of pride that they are just like mumma and love craft and that they are actually enjoying themselves.

 It is true that they beam with each creation that they conjure up. I love to see what they create when they pull out their stash of papers, ribbons and stickers. Sure i still have stock go missing on the odd occasion that has me thinking where did i put that - but we all have an understanding now -- just ask first before you make it into your masterpiece.

Both of my children love to create. Their thinking process in creating is simple and they like to add balance to their pages. Yes they do ask mum what should I do, but I am very minimal on my advice as I truly want them to be proud of their creation in the knowing that they did it all by themselves.

In Emily's creation below she was given a piece of printed cardstock that I originally was using on a layout but decided against it. She took this half circle and cut it to bits then created a mosaic on her page then added flower stamps. Oh and being a girl she absolutely adores Kindy Glitz - i have had to buy this in the large bottle as we run out too quick with the small one.

When scrapbooking with the children I tend to ask them a question and as they answer I type it into the computer then they sit at the computer to change it to the font that they want.

In Ryan's layout below he chose to do a title in stamping. Because he was so young and because his favourite color was red at the time he did not realise that his title blended in so much, so with gentle persuasion i gave him a black pen and said how fantastic the title would be if he traced around it - helping it stand out so that it was easy to see. 

Ryan wanted to use paint - so we found some that matched the color of the cloak that he was wearing in the picture and he wanted it to be sparkly paint because he was a king. He foraged through all my stamps and found some crowns for the corners which he painted in his favourite color. His picture was cut out  as he had seen his big sister doing it ( and mummy helped do this for both of them after they had finished... i am a bit pedantic about straight edges)

Both of my children have a love of creating. The trick I guess is to welcome them into the craft space with open arms, lots of encouragement and love. I try to make it lots of fun and let them get into the messy side with paint and our newest best friend texture paste ( I have had to hide that one from my daughter as it has come a bit like the kindy glitz - lol) .

My whole thought on this process is that we are all spending quality time together and that we are encouraging each other to be the best that we can and to appreciate each others uniqueness.

Fancy Pants - Frosted Collection, Layout by Sarah Rickard

I just love working with Fancy Pants papers - they are just no nice.

I woke up quite cold this morning and thought it was appropriate to share a winter layout with you all.

Here I have used the Fancy Pants Frosted Collection papers to create this layout:-

I have used pale blue cardstock as my background colour then I wanted to add some pink into the layout to highlight myself, then I layered some more blue on top, then a doily, then a Bella flower then a snowflake that I cut out of the patterned papers, I wanted to add a bit more colour so I added the orange strip along the bottom which I scalloped.  For the title I used the Carolee Creations Tiny Alpha stickers and American Craft Thickers.

Hi! My name is Karen.

I have been scrapping for approximately 4 years now. I started this wonderful hobby when a friend introduced me to Creative Memories. It was a great way to start as I had never been creative before and it allowed me to learn the basics! One of the things I love about this craft is the wonderful people I have met both online and in person. These friendships have grown over the years to be vital in my life. This craft has so many people who are willing to share and no matter what type of scrapper you are you just fit in. I have leant so much and have even known to be extremely cheeky and scrap lift a LO while someone is putting one together beside me. That’s what I mean about the willingness to share with others!
My scrapping style is pretty simple I tend not to have a lot on the page even though I love products but I find I often have trouble putting heaps of things on a page.
I would like to thanks Tan for asking me to put some work together for you this month. I really appreciate your confidence in me Tan!

Jillibean soup papers - Sideways ponytail

Sideways Ponytail using Jillibean soup papers




1. Use the Kraft coloured cardstock as your base

2. Cut “ brown rice” red side to 10 inches x 5 inches. Distress edges

3. Take “ red peppers” paper and cut to 4 inches by 8 inches

4. Use cherry side of “brown rice paper and matt your photo

5. I have used a 2 inch strip of red peppers – the striped side and used a scallop border punch. Or you can handcut your own.

6. I have taken 2 strips of red twine and tied them together at the ends and attached across the bottom of the photo

7. I have used a white floral spray at the left side of the photo and attached a small cluster of flowers at the top right side of the photo

8. I have punched a butterfly from the scraps and doodled a trail behind her.

9. Add title and journalling

New Products on Order!

Tanyah has been busy ordering some wonderful new collections from our favourite Manufacturers and Imaginisce 'Splash Dance' just happens to be one of the new ranges on its way.
It is a delightful array of brightly coloured double sided papers perfect for summer holidays, trips to the beach or just splashing around the pool. And just wait until you see the little sea creatures... awww!

I have been fortunate to have a little play with Splash Dance and I can tell you... it is now one of my favourites! So easy to work with and so versatile in being able to mix and match all the papers to create so many different styled layouts, not to mention the beautiful blend of colours.

This layout I created for the May Imaginisce Sketch using Splash Dance 'Polka Dot Bikini' and 'Ocean Motion' patterned papers, Ocean Treasures Chipboard Stickers, Doin' the Wave Rubons, Core'dinations Cardstock, American Craft Thickers and Renoir Brads.

Don't you just love the little Fishy rubon-ons. I've also used tiny Kaiser pearls for the bubbles.

I love this pic of my niece, she is a little gymnast and does the most amazing jumps... just a bit hard to catch on film sometimes but this particular day I was lucky! I have used Imaginisce Splash Dance 'Bathing Beauties' and 'Polka Dot Bikini' patterned papers, Sea Stickers - Sticker Puffs, Ocean Treasure Chipboard Stickers, Title Waves Rubons, Cardstock and Kaiser Rhinestones and American Craft Puffy Thickers.

Don't be afraid to use cardstock for your quilling, it is a bit more tricky and not quite as neat and refined as using paper but gives you a different style which works great on the right layout and was just perfect for these little waves.

I decided to create a sketch for the 'Star Fish' layout so feel free to have a play! We would love to see what you come up with so don't forget to upload your creations into the gallery.
We will keep you posted on the impending arrival of the cutest of cute 'Splash Dance' by Imaginisce, not to mention all the other gorgeous collections Tanyah has on order!

THE THOUGHT BEHIND THE PROCESS

USING LOTS OF PHOTOS TO TELL THE STORY - no journalling needed

The layout i have up today was a series of shots that were taken out at lunch. I wanted to capture the whole event... how my son was fooling around with coasters and how his pop showed him how to make his own face creations... i guess the both of them were bored, but this is what he came up with. There was a lot of chatter at the table about Star Trek, hence the title "Beam me up".

The photos were quite dark and the lighting in the background was a beautiful amber hue, great mood lighting at this place, so I decided that I would use orange as my backdrop to capture the lighting in the photos. To brighten the whole layout up I added bright colors in the title.

There were seven great pictures and I have chose one that was enlarged to be my centerpiece, the other six were printed a smaller size and were grouped in twos and then mounted on cardstock.

The first thing was to organise the placement of the photos on the cardstock. I then chose the printed stripe paper  to compliment the background paper. A combination of chipboard arrows, handmade arrows and rub ons were used. The handmade arrows and chipboard arrows were painted a color chosen from the printed paper and were given a doodled border in black pen. The arrows were placed around the layouts so that they could tell the story or sequence of events - starting at the top right and working my around.

The title is a combination of fonts printed from my computer and then painted and edged in black marker. These were given dimension by adding foam tape to the back and layering the letters over each other.I decided that the final arrow would have the word 'up' on it and added some press studs for interest at the bottom. The journal card was a from the Fancy Pants range and captured the essence of my sons' eagerness to do something amazing. A few more embellishments were added to the main photo with the use of rub ons and brads and the layout was complete.

I hope you have enjoyed this layout and find a little inspiration in scrapbooking some of the more odd moments as well as using lots of photos to tell the story.
