WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK AT SCRAP 'N' CRAFT WITH T

Good morning everyone.

Let me introduce myself.

My name is Shazz and I have been working for Tanyah at the shop since she opened back in April.

I am a local girl, born and bred.

I am married  to Mark who is my childhood sweetheart and I am Mum to three amazing children - Matt (aged 22); Jake (aged 19) and Kait (aged 14).

Besides working for Tan,  we own an IT company specialising in corporate networks and also a macadamia processing factory that roasts and flavours macs that packed and exported - mainly to the US.

We are a sporting  family and a busy family but hey....life is good...!!!

I have been a scrapbooker for the past 7 years although through a series of illnesses,  I haven't scrapbooked much in the past 12 months - I am hoping to change that soon.

That hasn't stopped me adding to my stash  though  - don't we all just LOVE adding  to our stashes...???

I work in the shop on Fridays and that gives Tan a well-deserved day off

(although she does like to keep an eye on things)

I am also teaching classes for Tan - mainly OTPs.

So....what has been happing at "Scrap 'n' Craft With T" THIS week...???

Well.....we have doubled in size...!!!

Yup....that's right.....DOUBLED...!!!

We now have a lovely new area to have classes and crop sessions in that seats so many more people than the smaller area we have been working in up until now.

Tanyah will be re-commencing our FREE Friday night crop and technique nights next Friday, August 6 after she had to have most of July off after breaking bones in her arm - she said she tripped over a skateboard left out by her kids but I secretly think she was riding it....LOL

If you are local scrapper, or visiting the area we would love you to pop in and see the new workspace.

And of course, have a browse through our store brimming with all those gorgeous scrapping goodies.

Embellish it Comp - Week 8 Challenge - "Mixed Media It"

Welcome to the Week 8 Challenge. This week’s theme is “Mixed Media It”.

The beauty of creating a Mixed Media piece of art is that there are no solid rules. Anything you choose can be added to your work. So the guidelines for this week’s challenge will be:

Create a mini album – you must create a mini album with at least 3 different materials as the base pages. Two of your pages will need to be created out of fabric. (I have used canvas/ heavy weight calico, cardstock, corrugated card) - your acetate embellishment page (described below) is not counted as one of these pages.

All pages need to combine paint, ink and collage. The collage style can include anything you want – ribbon, photos, journaling, other embellishments, but every page must include at least one button and stitching (either hand or machine).

  

Your embellishment for this artwork is to create at least one acetate page to go into your album – this page is to be a different shape to your album shape. This page will need to have patterned paper, stitching and a word or journaling.

Here is my example for you to have a peek at....

This page was created with canvas fabric. I have also used watercolor paints, tim holtz inks, buttons, ribbons, random stitching, rub ons, lace & ribbons and a transparency over the photograph. 

The page on the right has been created using acetate.

I have created this next page using cardstock and texture paste, this was to give the page dimension.

The page on the left is cardstock and the page on the right was created with canvas.

The page on the left was created out of corrugated card. the page on the right is another acetate page.

My final page was created out of cardstock with a stamped transparency and fabric added.

Creating on a budget: two cards for less than $ 1.00 by Ingeborg Dijkstra

I have made these two cards using white cardstock and some stamps. The heart stamp from Prima has been used on both cards. These cards cost me less than $ 1.00 to make, which is a bargain. Obviously I bought the stamps and ink for more than that, but they have in my stash 'for ever' so they don't count ... LOL ...

The cards might be classified as 'Valentine's Day' cards, but I tend to tell my hubby 'I love you' many times a year/ month/ week and not only on the 14th of February. Therefore I decided to make some more cards to give to him in the next few weeks.


Here are the instructions on how to make the card above (see step-by-step pictures below).

1. I stamped the heart on a scrap piece of card and cut it out.
2. I placed the heart at the front of a white card to create a mask.
3. Using black ink I stamped all over the card.
4. I removed the heart (you will see a 'white gap' on the card)
5. I carefully stamped the heart in red in the 'white gap'.
6. I stamped two more red hearts on a piece of white card and cut them out. Using foam pieces I made them 3D. I added a little red ribbon as a finishing touch. Done!

This is the second card I made. I made it in 10 minutes; too easy. I always loved pop-up books and cards as a girl and that hasn't changed! Therefore I decided to make an easy pop-up heart card with lots of 'white space' to write stuff to my hubby!

As a base for this card I used a red card from KaiserCraft. There are 6 cards with matching envelopes for $ 2.00. Here are the instructions on how I made this card. It is too easy!

1. I stamped the heart in the middle of the card right on the folding part.
2. Using scissors I carefully cut around the heart. I made sure I left about 1 cm on each side to be able to pop it up later.
3. I cut a white rectange to go at the front of the card. I stamped 'I just wanted to tell you' at the front. I stamped 'I love you' on the piece with the heart (this will be the inside of the card)
4. I stamped some swirls around the corners of both pieces of white cardstock. I stuck the white pieces to the red card and done!

My name is Sherry Mendoza, I am a proud Air Force wife and I have four gorgeous children. I have been scrapping for over 10 years and been working in the industry for about 3 years. I am very fortunate to work for as Technical Editor for Australia's top magazine, Scrapbooking Memories. I also love to teach and design, I don't think I have a particular style, I tend to chop and change and love to try anything new. Thanks to Tanyah for inviting me to do a guest spot for Scrap and Craft with T, I got to play with some lovely papers from My Little Shoebox and some lovely embellies!

• white cardstock
• My Little Shoebox - flying high - miles high cardstock 
• My Little Shoebox - flying high - die cut journalling cardstock 
• My Little Shoebox - flying high - alphas

1. Cut white cardstock to 8.5 x 11 inches. (Retain leftover for card)

2. Cut yellow striped paper 4 x 8.5 inches and adhere to white cardstock about 3 inches from the bottom.

3. Trim red die-cut shape to 8.5 inches and adhere under yellow striped paper.

4. Adhere photo (mine is 4 x 4.5 inches) 

5. Doodle around edges of layout.

6. Using small and large letters add your title and draw around the larger letters with black journalling pen.

7. Using back side of die-cut cloud draw around the edge and add journalling, then adhere to page along with extra embellishments.

THE THOUGHT BEHIND THE PROCESS

Today I am going to share with you a mini album I taught a class on a few years back. I love a great quote. The problem is there are so many, so I decided that I would create a small inspirational quote book to keep a few of my favourite quotes in.

This album was created out of a Bella chipboard album . I have covered it with Bazzill and Making Memories papers, a little ribbon and some fantastic quotes that i have printed off the computer. 

With the Title block i used watercolor pencils to tie in the color of the ribbon. Each page has a quote or quotes that are my favourites.

Below you can see that i have made small pockets and tags to fit some quotes into... this is a great way to add  a lot more of your favourite quotes.

I have also doodled a border around the edge of the album as well on the pockets and tags that i have created. 

This is a great way to print out some of your favourite quotes to have on hand or as a gift for someone special.

Fun scrapbooking night!....

With stocktaking finally done and what a major task this was. I really want to thank Shazz &; Mark Pratten for your support and help with it all. You both are truly amazing, beautiful, kind people.

Last night Nicky Amber invited & took us to a Scrapbooking night at her church. A Lot of organisation went into it and thankyou for a lovely night out. It is always a pleasure to meet new people and have fun at the same time.

Creating with one arm is one major challenge for me at the moment, but as they say... where there is a will there is always a way! These aren’t totally finished but I was amazed how much i got done... there is a second side to finish the calendar year!

We all created a 2011 calender and even though katie talked the whole time she managed to get hers done entirely on her own.

I was amazed i accually was able to scrap between 2 people and not take over the entire table...lol. Thankyou helle McConnochie  for taking this pic of katie and myself it is always nice to have mother and daughter time.

We had a great night and thankyou to all the organisers

Sorry this post is late this week! I didn't realise my scheduled posts had disappeared! LOL

So I figured today I might as well use a cute quote about apologising that I've had swimming in my brain for a while - I'm planning on using it on a page about my 4 year old daughter Elizabeth who now has a habit of saying to me "I'm sorry, I love you" even when she just thinks she's going to be in trouble! LOL

Embellish It Competition - week 7 challenge

Congratulations to those of you who are continuing in the competition this week.  It is wonderful to see entries are continuing in the challenge section as well, the gallery is looking fantastic!

This week's challenge is set by Nicky Amber.
Your challenge this week is to create a project (any project - layout, card, OTP, canvas whatever!) that helps you use up your scraps and whatever you might have lying around in your stash. 

Most of us usually have some plain cardstock lying around in our stash so to start with we would like you to use cardstock to create your own patterned background.  You can use paint, ink, stamps, masks, etc... to do this.

We all like to get the most out of our materials so we'd like you to use your scraps and off cuts to make some inchies (at least 3) and incorporate them into your project.
NOTE: inchies are little pieces of art that measure 1 inch x 1 inch.

We would also like you to incorporate a favourite quote into your title... and to challenge you further no alpha stickers eg. thickers are to be used in your title.

To 'embellish' your project we'd like you to make a handmade embellishment from fabric.  You can use other scraps or items on your embellishment too - as long as the basis is made from fabric.

So to recap, you must:

• create your own patterned background
• make and use at least 3 inchies on your project
• use a quote as part of your title
• not use alpha stickers on your project
• create a handmade embellishment from fabric

Happy 1st Birthday card - by Sarah Rickard

Here I have created a quick simple Birthday card using the SEI Make a Wish patterned paper.

 It is a really cute paper that I thought would look just fantastic on some cards.

The products I used are:-

*  SEI - Make a Wish patterned paper
*  Kaisercraft cards and envelopes
*  May Arts ribbon
*  Piece of fabric
*  Brown pen
*  Piece of pink cardstock 
*  Staples
*  Distress tool
*  Ink

Here is a sample of my finished card (I apologise for the bad picture, I took the picture last night):-

Here is what I did to create the card:-

1.  I outlined the entire card freehand with the brown zig pen giving it a border.
2.  I cut a piece of orange fabric (my piece is about  3.5 x 2.5inches) and used double sided tape to stick it to my card.
3.  I then cut a piece of ribbon (4.5inches) and stapled it to the card.
4.  I then used my PC to type out my card title and printed it onto the cardstock.
5.  I then cut out my title, distressed and inked the edges.
6.  I then used double sided tape to adhere the title to the card.
7.  I then cut out the cupcake from the patterned paper and used double sided tape to adhere it to the card.

Instructions

Cut centre out of Flutter Forever leaving approx 2” border

• Adorn-It Carolees Creations Flutter Flight Collection
• Flutter Forever
• Fancy Flutter
• Flutter Stripe
• Cardstock – Hot Pink
• Coredinations – Jaybird & Lime
• Kaisercraft – Friends
• Bella – Pink diamontees
• Bella – Teal font
• 6x4 Landscape Photo

Instructions

Cut centre out of Flutter Forever leaving approx 2” border

Cut Coredinations - Hot Pink Cardstock to a 10” x 10”

Cut Coredinations – Jaybird Blue Cardstock  to 4” x 10” 

Cut the circle stripe out of Adorn-It CC Flutter
Stripe 

Cut stripe off the Flutter Forever (allowing for cutting of
couple of butterflies, see pic below)

Now lay out all pieces of PP & Cardstock as displayed,
mark where everything sits on the LO, do not stick together yet! 

Grab your Hot Pink Cardstock and place template
over (I just used a piece of acetate with black dots on it) and start pricking
your holes so that you can use your Cropadile or Silent setter to punch out
various sized holes

Cut a piece of Coredinations – Lime to place
behind the punched out area

Now cut carefully around a butterfly on the Flutter Forever
stripe, lift wings and add the bling to the centre of the butterfly

Now you can cut a piece of Coredinations – Lime
to frame your 6x4 photo

Now you can start to adhere your LO together

Add your Flutter Stripe with the circles on it, then add
your photo. Now that you have adhered everything prick your next series of
holes down the bottom left hand corner.

Now using 
your Cropadile or Silent Setter punch out the different size holes,
place Lime behind the Hot pink Cardstock again

Add your Kaisercraft Word Bling – Friends to you LO

Then I cut out another matching butterfly from
the Fancy Flutter to put in front of my punched out holes, added some bling to
it and adhere to the LO

Now I cut some different sized circles from various coloured
cardstock and from the Flutter Stripe to add to the LO, then finish adding your
title using Bella Teal Font.

Digital Freebie - Faded Carnival

It's been a couple of months (silly computer was mucking up yet again!), but I'm finally able to share another digital freebie with you all!

It's called "Faded Carnival", mostly because it reminded me of a run-down carnival as I was creating it! Stripes, spots and softly faded shades of pink, blue, aqua and orange!


Included are 5 solid coloured cardstocks, and 4 patterned papers all matching beautifully.

THE THOUGHT BEHIND THE PROCESS

Today I would like to talk about altered playing cards. I started creating a set of 52 last year while working on a personal challenge from the prompts put up over at ScrapChat. I tried lots of new ideas and techniques that I had never tried before and came up with some fantastic results.

The card I would like to discuss today is titled "I can see". It was one of 4 cards that I taught in an online class for ScrapChat. This would be one of my favourite cards, although most of them are favourites for different reasons.

When creating with the oversized playing cards, I always like to lightly sand them. This takes off the shiny coating and helps your glue or paints adhere to them.

In creating this card I added the folded texture you can see in the background by adding masking tape in layers. On top of this a coat of primer and then I I added the pink paint with a sponge brush. It was added to the edges of the card and lightly over the ridges of the masking tape. After this was applied and had dried I added my brown ink (umber) to the edges and also the ridges as I did with the paint.

I printed out my quote and inked and used black pen to border it and then adhered it to the card. I then prepared my stamp on a clear block and using Staz On ink I stamped the image onto the card. To dress the rest of the card up I created a small torn flower and added staples and buttons to the quote.

The thought behind this project was to create a slightly shabby chic piece of work, whilst trying a new technique.

Scrap n Craft with T's challenge for week 6

This week we have something a little different for you all. Those who were elliminated we really would love to see you have a go too in the non judged section.


This weeks challeng is done by Karen Calcutt. thanks heaps for this you did a lovely sample

• Create a card compendium to give as a gift.  
• It must be made from at least 2 PP's from the same paper range.  
• They must include a couple of cards to show how it is used.  
• I would like the card compendium to look nothing like mine. (since someone has already made one in last weeks challenge)
•  
• We require you  to create an embellishment by taking a store bought embellish such as the flower shown and altering it in some way.  
•  
• I have used paper flowers on the outside and made a polymer clay rose for the centre and then used kindy glitz to make it all glittery.  
• Must make something and not just alter it by inking or using kindy glitz.

Criteria

 

Alter an embellishment

Make a card compendium that is different from mine.

Make at least 3 cards
