Hi everyone and welcome to a wonderfully scrappy weekend. I hope that thoe who are inthe Embellish This comp (and those playing along) are having heaps of fun working on their challenge. Boy it's a doozy!
This week I wanted to inspire people to excellence, so I've chosen this quote...
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit."
~Aristotle
I hope it helps you do one thing just that little bitmore excellent today!

EMBELLISH THIS COMPETITON! - Week 3 - Bling It!
Congratulations to everyone who has made it to round 3 of our 'EMBELLISH THIS' competition... everyone's work was amazing and you all made it very hard for the Design Team judging this comp.
We have a very different challenge this week, and we can't wait to see what you come up with.
All entries are to be in the Week 3 'bling it' folder please. ONLY one entry per person please
If anyone wants to have a go at this challenge you are welcome to, but please place your entry in the general members gallery. Thanks.
The judging criteria this week is...
EMBELLISH IT..... AND BLING IT!
My Challenge for you this week, goes hand in hand with a big event on the Australian Calendar...the Melbourne Cup.
It's always a big event that gets the whole nation involved.
Seeing there's always a 1st, 2nd and 3rd...my challenge is all about 3's!
Here's my layout for you this week!!
So, the first part of your challenge is to use the Melbourne Cup logo as your inspiration and create a layout using the colours of teal, hot pink, black and white. Bright and very funky!!
NOTE: You can use tiny hints of other colours but the main focus is on this colour scheme.
The second part of the Challenge is to create an interesting background, and it must have 3 elements to it. For example, my background has painting, sewing and a weaved paper background. You can do whatever you like here, but it MUST have 3 parts to it!!
As you know, the Races are all about fashion, feathers and bling, so guess what the third part of the challenge is about??
You MUST use: Fabric, Feathers and Bling on your layout somewhere.
As an BONUS part of this challenge and sticking with the theme for our "Embellish This" competition...You MUST create a handmade embellishment out of fabric.
It can be anything at all. There are plenty of tutorials on the web, showing you how to make various embellishments. Let your mind run wild...I can't wait to see what you create!!
Good luck everyone!

Hello everyone
Its Wednesday again and it means those who are doing the EMBELLISH THIS comp need to have their entries in our gallery by midnight TONIGHT!... http://www.scrapncraftwitht.com.au/gallery
If you haven't been over to check out our gallery the week, our very tallented competitors would love to hear your comments... Their all absolutely amazing this week and very much WOW. The tallent and skill will be very very hard for my design team for judgeing this week and I wish them lots of luck judgeing ....xx
Today we have a special guest Designer - Lisa Hanrahan who has designed an amzing step by step layout to share with you all.
Materials Needed
If you want to purchase any of these items please CLICK HERE! to go to www.scrapncraftwitht.com.au
Instructions
1. Take green cardstock and measure a rectangle 3cm in from the top, bottom and right hand side. Measure 14cm in from the left hand side. Cut out the rectangle and set aside.
2. Take patterned paper and measure 16.5 cm across. Before cutting, check that the larger side will cover the rectangle space in the cardstock. Cut and put smaller piece of patterned paper aside.
3. Adhere larger piece of patterned paper to the right hand side of layout, covering rectangle space.
4. Take green cardstock rectangle that had been set aside and use a scallop punch or decorative edge scissors to create a decorative edge along one long side only. Cut decorative edge off rectangle to form a strip 2cm wide.
5. Attach scalloped trim and desired photo towards the centre of the layout on green patterned paper.
6. Take remaining cardstock and patterned paper pieces and turn over. On the back of the green cardstock, draw one large and two medium flowers. On the back of the green patterned paper, draw one medium and two small flowers. A flower template could also be used. Large flower is approx 7cm across, medium is 5.5cm across and small is 4cm across.
7. Cut flowers out and on the front add hand stitching around each petal with a black pen. Layer the large flower starting with a large dark green flower, a medium light green flower, a white flower and a large brad.
8. Create the small flowers the same way using the medium and small cut out flowers and a small brad in the centre.
9. Adhere Scraplet title and alphas to the bottom left hand of layout as shown.
10. Attach ric rac, flowers, staples, kindyglitz dots and drawn border if desired.
You have now completed your layout! We would love to see your work in our gallery http://www.scrapncraftwitht.com.au/gallery.

Doodling Tutorial - Four
Well, we're at our fourth Doodling tutorial already and my last one for the year.
Time sure flies, doesn't it??
I want to show you how to create a lined border today.
That's when you have 2 black outlines and you colour the middle white with a gel pen. It works a treat.
Start by drawing your two lines, as we do with the checkerboard border, then just colour the middle white. Very simple and you get some great effects.
A little like these...
This was an ATC swap I was in - "Things that fly". See the doodled border, black outline and a white inner section.
Here's another example, but this time I've done the lettering using the same technique.
Here's another idea when doodling.
Using circles, or dots.
One or two can be ok, but when you use them on a whole layout they can have quite the effect. Doodling as a "whole" can make a great impact to your page.
Here's a close up of the doodling...
and the complete layout!
Not bad, huh??
Here's another idea! I use paint quite a bit to accentuate my doodling.
Doodling can get lost at times, so by using paint to accentuate it, it really stands out!
I use this idea when doing borders, especially.
In this layout, I've painted a brown border and used a white gel pen to do my doodled border.
Lastly, I thought I'd share my Masters 2008 entry with you, my double layout.
I painted a large white border around the edge of this layout and doodled the complete border. It took ages, but I was so excited with the result.
Here's a close up of the doodling...
Have a great day and happy doodling!

OZEDIES Techniques...By Alison Callcott
Here is some samples of uses of the OZEDIES... this is a liqud die that works prefectly with cotton fabric or with paper.
Laces ...Row 1 – white lace
Row 2 – white lace dyed with Regency Rose
Row 3 – white eyelet lace dyed with Turquoise
Row 4 – white eyelet lace
Row 5 – white eyelet lace dyed with Luscious Lime
Row 6 – white circle lace
Row 7 – white circle lace dyed with Edwardian Pearl
Row 8 – white circle lace dyed with Chocolate
Row 9 – white stretch lace
Row 10 – white stretch lace dyed with Pansy
Row 11 – white stretch lace dyed with Chocolate
* All the laces were dyed with 100% full strength dye and left in dye for varying short times to achieve results obtained.
**************************************************************
Blue denim swatches ...
This example is used from recycled blue denim (from old pair of jeans)
These swatches are in the first picture above....
Swatch 1 – Edwardian Pearl
Swatch 2 – Regency Rose
Swatch 3 – Fuschia
Swatch 4 – Luscious Lime
Swatch 5 – Pansy
Swatch 6 – Chocolate
Swatch 7 – Turquoise
* All the denim swatches were dyed with 100% full strength dye and left in dye for varying short times to achieve results obtained.
*********************************************************
Here is a Card that Alison Callcott has made with some blue denim recycled from an old pair of jeans which she has dyed with Ozecraft Chocolate and Turquoise dyes. Alison has included examples of the original blue denim above the card.
Other products used when making the card are:
Again the denim was dyed with 100% full strength dye.
Step 1
Alison found both the Turquoise and Chocolate dyes to be very strong so the blue denim was only in the dyes for a short amount of time.
Step 2
Additionally, to make the most of my dyes, Alison squeezed the denim circles to ensure any excess dyed returned to the container she was using.
Step 3
Alison then laid the denim circles on an old towel so as to not stain any surface and they dried reasonably quickly ... as quickly as any wet fabric would.
When using the Ozecraft dyes Alison primarily used small recycled yoghurt containers to pour the dye into.
hope you liked these samples and if you have any questions please feel free to email us at admin@scrapncraftwitht.com.au
Thanks Alison for this awesome technique

Layout & Sketch by Tanyah Payne
Hi everyone!
I love seeing everyones projects in the Gallery it's amazing!
Today's sketch is one from my layout i have done for Karens challenge with the Embellished this competition. I am unable to go in the comp for obvious reasons and won't be judging either! thats our wonderful DT's job.. They have a tough job ahead of them and i wish them all the luck i support i can give.
Karens Challenge was so inspiring and I thouroughly enjoyed doing it. I am in the middle of doing another one which i started over the weekend at the Girls Night In on Saturday.
Here is a pic of some of us!..
NOTE: some people are missing, they must have been out shopping outside, looking at all the yummy new things i brought along, while i was taking these pics!...
So here is my sketch...
and would love to see what you have created using this one!....

Saturday Scrapping Stimulus...
Hello, it's Kylie here again, and welcome to another weekend!
I hope you're all busy doing the awesome Embellish This challenge that Karen set yesterday. Remember, there's still time to sign up if you're interested in joining in! Today is the last day!
Today I felt we needed a quote that had something to do with our art, so I found this little gem...
"The best part of beauty is that which no picture can express"
~Sir Francis Beacon
I hope it inspires you to find the beauty beyond the picture...
Have a great scrappy day!
